Default AAA premium increase...27%!

My 2006 997 premium just got a juicy increase of 27.52% ($1584 > $2020) for 2018-19. Even my wife's 2011 Nissan Juke got a 17% increase. It also looks like every carriers has done or is doing the same. I just cannot believe we can't do anything about this...antitrust laws anyone?! Don't even ask me to vote YES on any November ballot that seeks an increase in taxes on anything, not even 0.01%! I have not moved for the past 5 years, bought the car March 2017, no accidents, no tickets.

Have you moved recently? Residing location has a large impact on premiums.
Otherwise, that does not sound just, unless you have had multiple driving offenses.
Shop around.

Garaging zip code, tickets, accidents, # of accidents in that zip code, cost to repair each vehicle if damaged. There are a LOT of factors in determining premium, however a 27% increase is a bit hefty. I'd give them a call and see what they say.

I live in Southern California and have been with AAA for over 20 years. I did notice that my premium went up this year. On close inspection, that is due to the decrease in "member dividend payout". AAA is a member owned business (as they claim) and will revert a part of their earning back to its members in the form of premium reduction. 2017 may not have been a very profitable year for AAA as their flood payout was a lot more than years before (Houston flood). Thus the decrease in member profit share, or subsidy on your premium.

FWIW, my premium for 2009 C4S is $787 a year with < than 2,500 miles driven per year. $1,000 deductible at 500K liability and 1MM per occurence.

I've been with AAA for 17 years. We have the house and 3 vehicles total. Savings dividend for 2018-19 is $405. Again an increase of 27% for a 12 yrs old 911 and 17% for a 7 yrs old Nissan Juke is off the charts, an absolute ripoff and not justified under any circumstances.

That sucks. Sorry. You're in LA; have you seen your registration yet? Mine went up 27.4% ($288 - 367)! Thanks, Jerry Brown. Don't know what it is with that stupid number, but I hate it.

And the vast majority of people in California just take it. I did a quick search for any outrage or actions that could emerge out of this ripoff and got nothing...surreal!

Come to Texas. Mine is just over $900 for the year and my registration cost me a whole $56 this year, Highway robbery. LOL. Utah was still cheaper than Texas though.

Yeah, vehicle registration is another one. It's not only AAA but other carriers as well.

AAA got absolutely destroyed with claims, and they're a mutual insurer. So when that 18 year old idiot leaving Cars & Coffee plows into the crowd and they have to pay for 2 funerals and a combined 22 months of ICU? That comes directly out of your pocket. So do all the "RUST-FREE TEXAS CARS" that have been popping up on shady lots since Harvey. And of course, when somebody says they can't deny claims for completely bogus reasons, that gets passed straight onto you as well. And frankly, AAA insurance is pretty awful. Get an actual insurance agent that can shop more than one firm - mine deals with nine different insurers and will switch me to whoever's cheapest and least awful.

Meanwhile, I'm gonna chill over here with my <$700 premium... per 6 months. Before discounts (and member dividend. But my insurer doesn't do California. Sorry. But if you can get 'em, Grange is pretty good.)

Get a quote with Progressive. Big discounts, specially if you pay in full.

Try Geico too. They've been good to me with reasonable rates. I'm in the lowest mileage category. Helps a lot.

I have AAA for my motos and haven't had an increase, I actually got a reduction this past April during my renewal. My moto's see less than a 1K miles a year. For my auto's, I have Wawanesa and that also had a reduction for my Aug renewal. Those in CA, try calling Wawanesa.
