What to buy while waiting for a 992?
Dear All,
Long time lurker and first time poster. Apologies for being the millionth newbie asking this question but I find myself in need of some advise. So, I am a first time Porsche buyer and have made up my mind to buy a 992 4S. My local dealer in Zurich, Switzerland is telling me that realistically I can expect a delivery only in Summer 2020 and if I am expecting some discounts then it might even be a bit later.
But the trouble is that I am bitten by the Porsche bug (have done some testdrives on 991s recently) and cannot realistically see myself waiting so long for a fix. I have been thinking of buying a low mileage 991.1 4GTS or 991.2 4S and use it until the initial rush for the 992 dies down. Considering that this is a stop gap, I would like to go for something that has a lower chance of depreciation.
Based on the current market in Switzerland, a fully loaded 2015(2016 model year) 991.1 GTS with 15000 miles is offered at 120K USD whereas a fully loaded 2016(2017 model year) 991.2 4S with 10000 miles is offered at 130K USD. On the other hand a fully loaded 2017 (2018 model year) 991.2 4 GTS with 6K miles is offered at 150K USD. All cars have a 4 year warranty.
Now, I have driven all these cars and loved all of them! So, really, the whole thing comes down to the expected depreciation and while no one has a Crystal ball, I would really appreciate your take on this based on experience.
Thank you for your time and again, I apologise for making you read through some thing like this for the nth time.
Cheers

Three Wheelin'
I was just in Zurich 2 weeks ago and visited that dealership! Nothing interesting that day, just a bunch of family cars haha. I agree .1 GTS. Not clear how much in demand the 992 will be to be honest. Pics of the rear end look awful imo.

Buy the car that has depreciated the most, is in the nicest condition and at the best price you can negotiate...GTS? I do agree that you should not wait for the unknown - life is too short so enjoy yourself.

Why does your dealer think that the 992 4S will be ready for delivery only in 2020!?
My dealer (Austria) told me that the Coupe models should arrive end of 1st Quater 2019. Only not sure, if the 4S models will be available right from the beginning, that could maybe be the issue with that late delivery only in 2020... !?
anyone nows if the all-wheel drive models of the 911 are usually availalbe right away when the new model is launched!?
I´m anyway not sure if I should go for the standard S or the 4S - any opinions about that? ;-)
coming back to your question: I´m afraid that all of these (still quite young) cars will depreciate to some extent, especially if you would like to re-sell when the new model is available in 2019/2020 (as I´m sure that some of the critics they will take into account when launching the final shape/design of the car).
but if you really want to buy something for the next 1 to 1,5 years, I would go for one of the GTS models, they should have the best price/value realtion and depreciate least.
I decided to keep my Panamera until end of 2018 and go right away with the 992 (4) S ....
