Retrofitting a glovebox
Hello,
I am installing a dash with the glove box in our 99 C4. But having trouble making sure I have everything I need before I rip the old dash.
looks like I need a bracket in the back. What else?

Ok, I got it figured out. A bracket 996 552 753 00 LL and some crews and flat nuts. Should be simple to do.
I have a hard time believing I am the first to do this?

More to the point I can't believe some early models don't have a glove box, why??? Is the 996 series the only 911 without one?
Assuming you're going to replace that savannah coloured cover for a black one to match, right?

Yes, I am reupholstering the dash and glovebox to match what I have done in the rest of the car. Black charcoal leather with blue stitching.
while the dash is out there will be a few items that I will be taking care too.

I got a glovebox style dash due to a dismantler shipping snafu, instead of the non glovebox one I needed. I posted here and was told that people had seen the late dash swapped into the early car, but they didn’t do the work themselves. So, it seems doable, at least anecdotally. I didn’t install it though, so I am no first hand help. I found the model year correct dashboard and installed it instead.

The 996 actually has 3 "gloveboxes"... 1 - Rear center console, 1 - in each door... Small? Yeah, but they very easily fit a pair of gloves, some napkins, a small flashlight, a multi-tool, registration/insurance card... How many gloves do you need to store in your car? I don't get the need to have a storage area in front of the passengers knees... Is it just me?

I am well aware of some members opposition to the glovebox and the added weight that comes with it. My wife is not tracking the car, so winning races is not a concern.
And as stated, I am taking the dash out regardless. And adding extra storage for minimal effort is never a bad thing.

Well, I'll do a write up on it when I put it in, which should be in the next couple weeks. It honestly looks like adding a bracket and that's it.
She wants more storage, but to be honest (and I know there are track performance guys out there that will groan) I also think that the car needs it. Not just for storage, but the dash just needs more detail to it, and the box with the nice satin metal handle and the satin trim I got for it will go a long way to making the interior look more upscale from the Kia Sedona look it has now. I am working hard on making the interior look like it belongs in a $90 000 car (when new, of course). I have upholstered the pillars and centre console, and am now working on the doors. I am just now deciding if the new main console needs any blue stitching before I put it in. Looking for the bracket from wreckers now.
