Default Fodder for You 911R Haters

Car Magazine has named the 911R the Greatest 911. While many will disagree, as is their right, from where I stand, it is, indeed, one of the best -- with such magnificent cars as the 1973 911RS, the 964RS and the 964RS 3.8. This has nothing to do with value or cost, but everything to do with fun, enjoyment and the love of Porsche.

Yes, and while I can fully understand why people were unhappy with the allocation process, the car is too good to keep down.
and, like Car says it has been key in the rebirth of the manual and the launch of the GT3 Touring.

I fully agree with you Mr. Linton. If anything the 2016 911R (second generation from 1967 911R) set the tone for the succeeding generations of manual 911 (e.g., 991.2 GT3 manual, GT3 Touring, et. al.).

Drive safe,

Totally agree - almost 2k miles on mine and it gets better every day - a spectacular car. Those that have driven them understand it's place in Porsche's history. A keeper, for sure.

And though so many use Rennlist to complain about the cars we love, we owe our thanks to all of those who make the Porsche GT cars what they are, particularly Dipl. Ing. Preuninger, Dr. Walliser and the man who in so many ways is the godfather of these cars, Dipl. Ing. Roland Kussmaul.

Great car of course. Starting out the conversation with "for you haters" will only invoke more drama.

The enthusiasts have been asking for a manual since the 991.1 GT3 came out. A few years of constant forum bitching and Porsche caves in after hyping only having a PDK option.

The 911R is pretty much what enthusiasts were screaming for and Porsche listened. I'd give them the credit.

It is a super example of a well optioned model which gets down to the basics of what these cars should be. The R is a great drivers car for everyday backroad and twistie use. A car you can enjoy outside of the track.

At the same time, I think the anger comes from many enthusiasts who also appreciate the model and unfortunately is out of reach when in reality should be a standard offering. Once again Porsche listened and gave them the Touring, which many would still argue is out of reach

Have to say I didn’t know what the fuss was all about but was lucky enough to spend a day driving number “000” yesterday. What a fabulous car and definitely more than the sum of its parts.

Up there with the best Porsche road cars but the best Porsche of all time ...... naaaahh!!

+1900 miles on mine and counting. For me, long mountain pass drives or rolling empty highways in Eastern WA or OR, the 911R is perfect. Allows diver and car to continuously interact reacting to inputs and providing feedback to produce a great driving experience. As others have said, this car is available for drivers who want it and for others it may not be for them. But those who do own it and drive it....they are rewarded

Who are you trying to convince? Yourselves or the ROW?

How is the gearing ratio between the R and Touring? How about clutch weight?

I am one of the many that want one, but cannot afford it at the current price. If they will ever fall down to the 200k level I'm in.

Awesome. I wonder if Porsche might skip the Touring designation on the 992 and instead make a "production" R. That would be spectacular and I would certainly be begging them to take my money.

disclaimer - Touring owner here

I drove both back to back yesterday and didn’t notice any difference between the two in terms of clutch and gearing.

By the same formula, the GT3 Touring will be the greatest 911 next year
