Question 991.2 GT3 Alignment specs for the track

Hi guys,

Anyone have a "go to" alignment spec for the track (using R-compound tires) for the new GT3? After 8 years with my old 6GT3, i knew what i liked but have yet to fiddle with anything on the new one.
I like a neutral car, not too much ovesteer.
Sway bar settings are all as they came from the factory as is ride height etc.
I have my first real track weekend coming up next week and so far I've only done a quick 20 min on a short track and another 20 min (slowly) in the pouring rain.
Thanks!

I've run 1.8 square, and still wore the outside edges off the Cup 2's. I'm now going to 'max factory adjustment' (tomorrow). Hoping for over 2.2 negative in the front, and then will match the rear. If I can get 2.5 out of the front, I would run the rear .2 negative 'less' than the front.

Enjoy your upcoming event!

Best Regards,
Dave

Don't fret,

-2.8 front, zero toe

-2.3 rear, 10-12 toe in per side

Wear is perfect.

Works great on 991.1 and 991.2 GT3

Anyone else with experience chime in...especially ride height and rake?

Im staying with MPSC2 tires as I drive to the track. I know ultimate settings depend on the track, driving style and preference.

So the car can get to -2.8 front just with the top of the strut tower pulled all the way inward?

I don't think .. .. My gt3 has 2.3 negative front camber with shims.... - 2.0 rear camber... Zero front toe .. And a bit of rear toe in... 0.1° per Tyre... Stock height .. Stock swaybars settings.... Very happy at the moment... Neutral car... Correct tyres wear

Anyone asking for alignment figures on forums should stay away from touching those. Porsche comes perfect from the factory for 95% of drivers. If you can use 90% of its performance then you are good enough to tamper the settings and you don’t need anyone here telling you what to set. IMHO

I think that's oversimplifying it a little bit. Getting even tire wear is a big part of why people are looking for camber and toe settings that will accomplish that, along with improving cornering. Depending on the track, going with a stock alignment will destroy the outside edge of the fronts quickly.

If you are looking to improve tire wear, nothing you do will keep those MPSCs from wearing out the front edges. One of the fastest drivers on this forum has gone all the way up to -3.5. He only succeeded in slowing the car and still wore out the edges. If you go to Dunlops or slicks, then camber changes may help with wear. I use MPSCs as well, staying with the stock track settings, and just junk the tires after 6-7 track days

Correct, CUP2 are dual compound tires. The outer portion is softer than inner. Not possible to get even wear driving aggressively.

“The Pilot Sport Cup 2's tread molds Michelin's Bi-Compound technology into an asymmetric design. Bi-Compound technology features different rubber compounds on the tread's outboard and inboard regions. Massive outboard shoulders feature a tread rubber whose hardness has been specially designed to deliver maximum adherence and outstanding dry grip on curves, especially on tight corners. Notched center ribs and an inboard shoulder use tread rubber featuring a more rigid elastomer to ensure precision steering.”

Slow in, fast out. Proper driving at first place will improve tire wear. I stick to my earlier statement that GT3 comes from the factory with good alignment for most folks. Especially if you drive the car more on a public roads than race tracks.
You might start with roll bars to get the car feel more neutral if you feel comfortable going at your limit with no electronic assistance. Get a fast consecutive lap times and take it from there. I can bet your tires would wear much less at that point without touching alignment.

I suppose it depends how you want the car to behave, your driving level and the circuit but for some context for a mid / high speed circuit this is what we run.

3.2 negative front / 1.5mm toe out per corner
2.6 negative rear / 2mm toe in per corner
Mid front bar / Stiff rear bar

Ride-heights and rake settings are critical with this car and generally most don't run anywhere near enough toe.

Important thing is to experiment for yourself however and enjoy the car within your comfort level

I know where you're coming from because I've been there, but chasing even tire wear ended up being an exercise in chasing my tail.

if you want to drive it like a 996 yes, but you can go faster in the new cars with a better driving style and that means a good geo also . Slow in fast out is so old school... oem geo is crap on track unless you want to drive it like a 996 and be slow.

each to their own of course, but with the engine in way more than the 996 cars and rws, you can really go faster in and fast out. More GT4 style in and GT3 style out,

I see old school 911 owners in GT4's going slow in and 996 drivers going slow in WTF ! You can go fast in and fast out now days, you just need a geo to match and to get out the old school rut of 911 driving :-p
