Cost of next gen GT4 & will you do it?
I have owned my GT4 for over 1.5 years now and for the last 6 months Ive been thinking about the next GT4 and how I could get one if its NA. I have read the entire thread on it and listened to all the videos etc. and having lusted for it I started to really put pen to paper to try and make a educated guess as to what it would cost me.
Below are the figures I guessed:
89K base (maybe 94K, but I used 89 for my figures)
15K in options (my current GT4 has 14K in options so figured close to this as I really like my car)
15-25 ADM since Im not one of those "guys" at my dealer (used 20K as middle ground for my figures)
Sales tax 13K (no credit on trade in as I live in CA and in a city with 10.25% sales tax!!!)
License and Reg. misc. dealer crap 1500.00
Total 138,500 less my trade in of I figure 84K leaves me with a hole of $54,500!!!
After really thinking about this the last 6-8 weeks I came to the following conclusion.
1. I really love my 981 GT4, it sounds awesome, handles incredible and in all honesty its limits are more than I can currently push through.
2. Im not a hard core racer (DE events 2-3 times a year and autoX 4-6 times a year)
3. There is no inherent flaw that I can't live with (think 996 IMS, etc.-My GT4 is a Sept. 15 build so probably no transmission issues)
4. Im not that guy who HAS to have the latest and greatest
So after careful consideration I decided Im not going to get the next GT4...but...
Lift 5-7K
1974-1983 911 targa 30-40K
Saving 10-15K and adding another P car PRICELESS...I will post pictures when completed.

The one and only thing that will make me move is if indeed has a NA 4.0L engine.....and PDK would be nice but manual is more than OK for me.
If Porsche doesn't go this way I will keep my current GT4 and probably do some nice upgrades to the engine and transmission.

Burning Brakes
981 GT4 is undervalued imho (at the glee of some 911 GT owners, i feel)
one year production run
<2000 units in US
manual, NA, incredible steering feel
perhaps it's fortuitous mine has not sold.

There are lots of things that are less than clear about the new car but it seems pretty clear that there will be a new car given all the testing of both it and the Spyder that you see online.
Id say that that the only thing we can be sure about is that there will be a new car!
Re what it would take for me: it would come down to cash for me. If I was able to get the new car at MSRP and get strong (list) for mine, I’d probably do it. Gven that cars are still selling for 20% over list in Canada, that’s possible I guess but the dealer would likely discount my trade heavily to extract what they could instead of charging over list for the new car. I don’t feel that it would be worth it as the new car is not likely to be a revolution - just an evolution- my GT4 has 1500 miles on it!
