Buying a Targa
A friend is in the market for a Targa, preferably GTS, either new or 1-2 years old. He's new to the 911 (has a Cayenne GTS already, if that means anything). He's very flexible about color and options. Any thoughts on must have options or those to avoid? Any cars he should look at that you are familiar with? All input appreciated. Thx.

The Targa is not really bought as a track car by most Porsche enthusiasts. Keeping that in mind (and it is hard to control oneself while shopping at a Porsche store) I test drove the base, S and GTS. I agonized over the power levels prior to test driving; but on the road I had just as much fun with the base as the other more powerful engines. It was at the track... and only on the straight sections that I felt the power difference. All three had torque vectoring, 20" wheels and PDK. They all cornered beautifully. I ended up ordering the base with a manual even though it wasn't as fast. I didn't buy the car for speed. I did get the torque vectoring. I mainly drive along coastal roads that have elevation changes and hairpin sections mile after mile, with very little traffic. The Targa is wonderful on these types of roads and I never once lament not having more power. I like the 18 way sport seats too on these roads.
If I drove mostly Interstate roads or gentle country roads, my needs might be different with regard to power and transmission. How you plan to use the car should guide you to a decision... but only after test driving the range.

I'm in Bay Area and I've got a beautiful 2017 PTS Fashion Grey Targa GTS that I haven't been driving much due to life and work. The car is great and it's amazing how much attention the color gets. It may be better in someone's hands who can truly enjoy it. Happy to entertain an offer.

I just picked up a Targa 4 GTS, and am quite happy with it. It really is a greatall around car. Feels like a cab, but less windy. Looks great, quick enough for daily driving

1) PSE (with top open you can truly enjoy it)
2) Heated and cooled seats (extend driving season both in cooler and warmer weather)
3) Steering Wheel Heat (make cooler days nicer)
4) Burmester Sound (when you don't want to listen to PSE only - and most likely not much impact on price when buying used)
5) As much leather as possible (It just makes the WOW feeling even more special! - see below...)

Shammerman, looks nice! What color is your interior/stitching? The bright sunlight makes it hard to tell in your photos. Maybe I have gone snow blind after this long, hard winter. You must be pleased with your car configuration. Cheers!

SC is Sports Chrono. The Targa 4 GTS comes with SC. The Targa 4(S) comes with SC as an option. I am not incorrect. SC has existed at least since 997.
