Painted my console
#5
Started process with a donor 986 console without soft touch paint. Soft touch is a bitch to get off.
Started wet sanding with 600 grit up to 800.
Used some grease/wax remover and applied 3 coats of sandable primer. Hit that with 800 grit again.
Bought color matched paint and reducer and shot 4 coats of color. Did not sand color. Followed up with 5 coats of clear and wet sanded between each coat. It was an involved process, but I took my time and spaced it out over 2 weeks.
Spent about $300 for console and paint. I have plenty left over to tackle some other pieces if I want to

That turned out great! Good job.
I had mine painted by a shop and the feedback was that, yes, the rubberized paint was pretty obnoxious to remove. Also, I have an Arctic Silver car with grey interior, so it doesn't have as nice a contrast as yours. Still much better than the soft touch, though.
