5 Things I Hate About the 993...
Do you think he's fair in his assessment of the 993?

I like his list. Especially "value" and the love/hate "patina" issue. I wouldn't have thought of those.
Jakob - I have the perfect solution if you read this. Start tracking the car like you originally intended. You'll get over the patina issue real fast and track insurance handles the value problem. It also gives you an endless source of content for 911% next year. When you start selling off all your possessions to support your track hobby, you'll thank/blame me. I expect Top Gear quality camera work. Just think of the possibilities.

The video seems sour grapes of sorts. Maybe he thought the car would be worth 2-3x what it now is? Whatever, it's nitpicking of a spectacular, older machine, and like all aging machines, the human one as well, it has issues- none irreparable.
He should take his profits and get a turbo if he wants more than "vintage power". Or, get a 2-wheel drive narrow body. He drives rocket ships often, so piloting that car delivers the goods differently..
Excessive oil consumption? I thought the issue was leaks, not excessive consumption.
The thumping, intermittent, loud background music is distracting.

I see he brings up the oil consumption = top end rebuild near myth. There are other very common reasons for oil consumption such as overfilling the oil, something that is easily done.
Most of his comments speak about him as a person not so much about the 993 as a car.

There would only be one thing on my list; and it didn’t make his.
That’d be having to mobilize/ demobilize the Car after I spend more than a minute getting luggage/ groceries/ my son in his car seat before starting the car.
Aside from that, I feel these cars represent the pinnacle of the refined analog automobile.

Annoying
Why are w listening to a glass half empty person. The incessant whining and lousy music makes watching painful. Sell the car now

He had posted an earlier video on 5 things he loves about the 993. Cut him some slack. He does good work. Check out his other videos before you criticize. BTW I have no connection. Just a follower of his videos

Investment & Real Cost
I didn't even watch the video, didn't want my BP to go off the scale this AM.
In my case, and yours too, the 993 has provided an incredibly moderate cost of ownership. Consider these rough numbers...and they do discount annual inflation of about 2.0% per year. Let's say I paid $60,000 for the car back in 2000, and I sold it 17 years later for $50,000, a cost of $10,000 divided by 17 years, or $1.63 a day....when inflation, what I paid for it in year 2000, and what I expect to net for the car in 2017, it really costs me about $7.00 a day over the term of my 17 year ownership, considering what $60,000 year 2000 dollars are worth today, and the value of what sell the car for in discounted 2017 dollars. Basically, taking inflation into consideration, and discounted the 2017 dollar, it's a Veinte Americano and a small pastry at Starbucks. Economically, that's is one hell of a deal. Very few cars hold their value as well as a NB 993. Now when you look at a Carrera S, and a Carrera 4S, these cars have nearly bridged the inflation gap, the 993 Turbo, has proven to be a reasonable investment. The 993 GT2, off the scale! But I couldn't afford one then, and for certain I can't afford one now.
HP? Considering that the 993 Variorram with advertised HP of 282, put out as much HP as a 88 911 Turbo...not too shabby. For me, one of the most amazing things about my car, was performance aka HP. On its most recent dyno in early 2017, it put out 261 HP to the rear wheels, off about 7% for the advertised HP of 282, and this car has 89,005 miles on her. The car has been sold and I am going to miss her, sort of like when your 17 year old kid goes off to college...17 good years with that car.
I didn't like the lag between 2nd and 3rd....cured that with a re-gear. Litronic high beams would have been a modern touch. But other than that, stellar car.

This thread has a surprising amount of negativity.
The creator has a channel dedicated to his 993. It’s not your average crappy YouTube channel. It’s well produced at significant effort just for the love of the car.
Not to mention, he’s a long time member of this very forum that has probably tried to help many of us.
Am I missing something? Why the hate?
