Default 991R vs 991.2 GT3 Touring

Although it may be a bit premature, I am very interested to see this comparison.

Since it is unlikely I will ever get to drive an "R" I want to see how close I can get with the Touring model.

Best,

Bret.

Agreed. I think one of the reasons Porsche made the touring version is to drop the R prices.

It would be great if one of the mags/video channels did a head to head comparison - even of the winged GT3 vs the R.

Agreed the engine in the .2 looks to be amazing, but the R has a lot of additional weight savings. I think a proper comparison would be interesting.

My touring comes in December, I'll compare it with my R if the weather cooperates in the Northeast at that time. FWIW, no one that I've talked to who has both the new GT3 and the R (obv not touring but still 991.2 manual) has mentioned anything about the new motor FEELING any better or more special as of yet other than being generally awesome as GT3 motors always are. Then again, any of us who have had a 997.2 RS (3.8) still thinks that motor was more fun than the newer variants...

Fwiw, we did just that for 000 Magazine last summer, .2 GT3 MT with 911R manual on the great roads of the Eiffel region.

Was a very fun couple of days...

I am most interested in the weight difference between two similarly equipped cars. It can’t be much saved going from aluminium to CF on the few body parts.

Very little. But you can make a car feel lighter with lighter clutch, manipulating steering and suspension with a different program/purpose

And the weight difference between a 911R vs a European spec .2 manual GT3 touring ordered with the same lighter options, is only 20lbs.

Not worth an extra $200,000, IMHO.

Funny, same thoughts
For me 997.2 RS is the pinnacle.

Is this correct? A quick check on google found GT3 MT was 1413kg (3,109lbs) and R was 3,021lbs making a difference of 87lbs. TBH I actually thought it was a bigger difference (like 180lbs) but 87lbs is still quite a lot.

991 R: 1370 kg
991 GT3 4.0 MT:1413 kg

The R is without AC and it seems to weight 15kg.

So 1385 kg vs 1413 kg.
I don't think that you can really feel the difference.

But the difference in RWS program can certainly be felt.
