It was at R/A this past weekend playing with these guys, but none of my 'on track' photos turned out.
Friday night at the Driver's and Worker's banquet, it was parked not far from Racing / Porsche LEGEND, Vic Elford

Who was kind enough to share his autograph with many, including me

I was speaking with friend and fellow Rennlister the other day by phone, ( Bill a.k.a. alfagt ) and he suggested this be a proper place to start a thread on this 951.

I fully agreed. Thanks for the suggestion Bill !!!

Hope you folks out here in the world of the wide web, can shed some good light on the history and current ownership of this beauty.

I was smitten; everywhere I looked it emanated a certain 'historic glow' about it.

Don,

What event was that at RA?

I don't know the car or owner offhand. Any idea of the shop it was with by where it was paddock'd?

It's one of the '88 Canadian Rothmans Turbo Cup cars. VIN looks correct and near the end of the run of cars (I think).

I can't find record that of any of the cars ran the RCTC series as #73 (?), so hard to say which one of the cars it is.

Appears to have had a recent, relatively thorough restoration.

Hood looks like a fiberglass skin over top of a factory steel hood frame?

Maybe you could narrow it down from your list of potentials by the rookie X on the back....

First, nice car, I'd like to have it.

Second, it pains me to see someone go through (or pay for) this much detail in a resto and have put the same old grungy take off fender bolts back on.

Jim:
Last Weekend's ELVF ( Historic vintage races, end of season @ R/A ), always held mid September @ Elkhart Lake, WI.

The car appeared to be from Quebec; never saw the owners. It competed in a few of Friday and Saturday qualifications and races, but didn't enter the Porsche Race mid-day Sunday. It had left for home, as many long distance travelers had.

I agree with all of your observations, esp. about the hood.

T:
The fender bolts looked newly painted, but may have been wet yet when tightened down? They were slightly off color tho, so you may be right on them being from previous use. Everything smelled 'very fresh' with paint odors oozing out everywhere. There was so much 'greatness' everywhere, the bolt heads do stand out as being marred in comparison .... I wouldn't turn it down because of them (-;

No roster with names were handed out to the masses. No programs.... pretty much everyone in attendance were teams, owners, friends and workers.

Or diehard enthusiasts. Never saw many of the cars @ the Concours before; it was an invitational. It was also 'Winged Warriors and Aero Cars' commemoration weekend. Around 50 Superbirds, Dodge 500s, Daytonas, Ford Taladegas, Mercury Cyclone Spoilers in both Dan Gurney Specials and Cale Yarborough Specials showed up. A few other interesting "A" and "B" body MOPARS came as well, but they weren't the focus group; just there to pretty things up. The organizer was driving a spectacular Guards Red 944S and owned one of the Road Runner / Superbirds also.

It was a tremendous showing of all things wickedly fast and aurally enchanting

(-;

I really liked the supreme detail to the engine bay. Just incredible really. Fit and finish was excellent, with panel gaps perfectly aligned. The intake was not 'mag' tho ( I think few at this point in time really are )

It would be great if the Owners were on this forum and could tell us more

Anyone know the story on the mirrors?

To this untrained eye, they are, well, different.

Door mirrors look like genuine factory cup mirrors, part numbers are 477857522H and 478857522F but they are rare.

They were factory 'cup' mirrors and appeared the same as on other CUP cars I know of.

Also were in tremendous shape; in fact the whole car was. For it having 20,000 + miles ( assumed racing or d.e. time ), the body was perfect. Details on cad or zinc plated items showed a bit of patina on some, new on others. It was wearing O.Z. RACING wheels and had a factory 'MATTER' cage inside with identifying tags accompanying it. I was really curious about the fire suppression unit on the floor, and looked continually about to speak with an owner or driver, but he was never by the car when I was. There were just SO many questions I had to ask ....

The above photos were taken at the R/A Center on Friday night at the gathering of workers, drivers, and cars. The largest part of the crowd had not appeared yet, but I got my vote in the box for this guy and a couple of Formula cars which were being judged as Vic Elford signed autographs and readied himself to speak.

We hadn't eaten yet, so did that first and when returning, the car was gone; presumably back to it's trailer.
The next night I expected it to be @ the downtown 'Gathering on the Green', held at the Osthof in downtown Elkhart Lake with the other race cars and invited show cars, but it was not there either. That spectacular event would have been made even more so had it arrived.

All track cars are led by Police Escort from the track into town to the north. People line the streets at these two annual Vintage race events, swelling the little burg of 900 to over 10,000 in July for the WEATHER TECH / HAWK with Brian Redman, for two nights of racing nirvana. Race cars Friday night, Street cars Saturday night. The September 'Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival' or ELVF draws slightly less in attendance but is still a quality event. Weather is usually typical Midwestern fall like and since it's near Lake Michigan, may change quickly with rain a possibility.

This year, every day was t-shirt weather with sunny to partly cloudy skies. Perfect. Great horsepower making climate !

This was some of the action:

Various shots of track, Vic Elford, Osthof 'Gathering' downtown, and 'Winged Warriors' ( aero cars such as Daytonas, Cyclones, Taladegas, and Superbirds. ) They were the featured cars this year

You can run 18" hoosiers in vintage/historic races these days? Nice...

Door mirrors are correct.

Intake - looks like its painted (?), or freshly cleaned alum?

Hood and hood pins are not original factory cup.

Interior and exterior ignition kills are factory, fire suppression is new.

Cloth passenger seat probably the original, driver race seat is not.

Try posting your questions here, this is where Quebec Rennlist members gather;

If it is from Quebec I'm pretty sure someone will know it.
