Default Snow tires for 991.2 GT3?

EDIT: see post #93 for summary of options.

I run snow tires year round on most of my vehicles as I do not believe non-all season tires are safe. I don't plan to drive in snow, but colder weather or a freak rain storm can be downright scary on summer tires. I suppose I would prefer an all season tire like on my 993, but I can't find all season tires in GT3 sizes at all.

So what are my options?

The two that are generally available are sottozero 3 and alpin pa4. However, there is no 305 30 R20 in the alpin and there is no 245 35 R20 in the sottozero listed in the sizes online that I can find. I would obviously prefer a matched set.

I called tirerack and it is of no help. No idea if/when they will get a matching set of any snows and also they stated that they will not have wheel and tire packages until they get a GT3 to scan.

I have until January/February, but as I run them year round and there is often no stock in spring I would like to line up a set now.

Anyone deal with this issue?

Right now I am thinking sottozero 3 in back in 305 30 R20 and sottozero 2 in front although I may just run an all season in front as there are options available in 245 35 R20 and I liked the AS front/snow rear set up on my lotus. Maybe sottozero 3 fronts will come out soon?

Use what Porsche sells for the 991.1 GT3. Enough posts on RL already. Doesn't require reinventing the wheel for the 991.2 GT3.

Is this a joke?

You plan to run snows year round on a GT3?

Don't normal people put on snows in the fall?

Wtf?

Not a joke. Wrecked my lotus on a cold wet day on summer tires and not having that happen again. Porsche has no spec for GT3 for winter tires that I can find. I was hoping someone (vendor maybe) knew if sottozero 3 would come out in front sizes or alpins in rear. There are no matched sets available in GT3 sizes apparently.

Michelin tires. Step below cup 2 or similar. Generally better in the wet and somewhat lower temps

Ok thanks but those are still summer tires. If there were all seasons (I liked continental DWS but they don’t have the sizes) I would get those probably.

Aren't you concerned about the opposite? Lack of performance using a winter tire when a sport tire is needed on normal temp dry roads (which is probably most of the time)??

Not at all. You certainly give up some dry traction to a true summer tire, but snows perform quite well even in hot temps. Basically you mainly give up tread wear (and even that is debatable/wrong compared to the stock tires). There is nothing unsafe about snows year round. I suppose if you were tracking the tires would get too hot and get greasy but that is not me.

I get this is not for everyone, but I am willing to trade dry weather performance for safety in rain/cooler temps. I love the alpins on my Jag (and when I had them on the lotus) and I have had blizzaks and Dunlop snows on my daily which were good enough. I liked the DWS a lot when I had them on the Exige S and the ASXs were not bad either. On the other hand every time it rained or cold and I was on summer tires it was terrible. Hydroplaning, terrible braking etc.

I guess not knowing where you live makes it hard to form an opinion. Good luck with the solution.

I have bought OZ Ultraleggera HLT rims (20x9 ET55mm front, and 20x11 ET50mm rear). On those rims, I have mounted Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 high performance all season tires (245/35 ZR20 for front, and 275/35 ZR20 for the rear). This rear tire/rim setup is within 1% of the rolling diameter of the stock tire/rim setup, so it will not be a problem. I use this setup in the winter when temperatures fall below 7 degrees Celsius, as summer tires suck below that temperature. I only drive the GT3 in the winter when there is no snow on the roads, so I don't need the snow traction.
