Love the project sites! Will PM each of you.

I should clarify how the site works with regard to vehicles which have multiple Current listings, as these do appear as duplicates on the results grid.

For example, if a GT3 RS is listed on eBay and on Craigslist, they are likely to have different listing content as each site has separate requirements. On PCAR FINDER, these will be two separate listings attached to the same PCAR ID, or record. On the results grid, you will see this vehicle listed twice (two rows), but clicking into either one will bring you to the same vehicle.

When you do a query, you're querying across all listings. Your results will be the listing "hits," so if a vehicle with concurrent listings appears multiple times in the search results, this is by design.

I haven't figured out a smarter way to display results than this, given the nature of the data. Listing a single row per unique vehicle I think would be ideal, but then PCAR FINDER would need to choose a "primary" or "best" result, and it's just not that smart yet.

Great job to each of you for very cool tools. I like having a list view but having a thumbnail option is also very helpful. Look forward to seeing future releases.

Nice updates, Scott! Super useful also for market comps when buying/selling.

Great idea and effort! Thx! Good luck making it grow.

Why only private sales on AutoTrader? Would be nice to also have Cars.com and CarGurus.com.

Ha, there are quite a few of us building similar tools or functionality (I'm behind VINAnalytics.com). We should combine forces in some interesting way to produce a more powerful offering for our fellow enthusiasts.

Any idea why I can't ever find the build sheet/info related to my VIN? It's an '01 996TT. Your site says:

Build Sheet is currently not available for

WP0AB299X1S685836

PCAR BUILDSHEET (pcarbuildsheet.com) and the link above are both unable to generate this one right now. There seems to be some small number (fewer than 10%) of qualifying VINs which are not in Porsche’s system. I’m continuing to research this and will shoot you a PM if/when I have a solution.

Thanks for all the comments and questions about the site. Some have been asking about more advanced features, so here are a few available now.

Results Grid Customization

Swipe for next/previous PCAR (super-handy on mobile and tablet)

Use quotation marks in any text field for an exact match

Buildsheet lookup and search from pcarbuildsheet.com

Keep the suggestions/ideas coming!

There's a ton of potential behind this site. I started a similar database gathering of cars, but I limited it to just two models and two years. Anyway, something we found useful on another forum's craigslist thread, is to capture and paste images from the listing. Craigslist ads can often disappear within a half hour, so it's nice to be able to grab photos and details about the listing beyond just the price and model. I realize that will come at the cost of storing photos, but it seems like that's all that's missing from your tool.
