Hard to believe for sure but happened with 997s for a bit. Obviously, didn't end up there but was there for a while when the 997.2 gt3 was the newer, shinier toy compared to the 997.1 3rs. Not sure that will happen this time given the benefit of hindsight on how things ended up amongst the 997's but, again, it has happened.

well...
here is a RS for under 200. The cars aren’t hugely apart in market value. Dont understand all the complaints toward the OP.

I've not seen any .1 RS in 180K range but haven't looked too hard. There are CPO examples under MSRP for sure.

I’m not in the market for either. I just don’t understand the jumping all over the OP.

In 1 - 2 months you can get them for $180K. Here's a seller that has dropped his price by almost $30,000 in the past 2 months and still no buyers...

You're absolutely right and I'm willing to bet in 2-3 months when .2 RS gets delivered you'll see them closer to 170k - the GT market is (and has been for some time) seriously inflated. I made a thread back in November asking when we would see 110-115k GT3. All except one member says I was crazy. Here's how crazy it all is.

Nov 20th 2017 I asked when we would find 10-115k 991.1 GT3
Nov 23rd 2017 (three days later) I purchased a 2015 with 25k miles and clean title for $112k - flawless car
Feb 2018 my friend bought a 2014 with 30k miles for $106k also an excellent condition car

Fast forward to today it's easy to find mildly optioned, under 20k miles 991.1 GT3 for 110-115k before any negotiations. That means people were inflating the prices by 30k+ but the real selling prices are well below the listed price (all of which sat for months on end).

I know a local Porsche dealer just took in a well optioned (215k msrp) Lava Orange for $170k and are trying to sell it to me for $195k. I found this out through the guy who traded it in on a .2RS order. I'm not making a move until .2 RS are more readily available because I know the market will end up at 170k very soon and I'm still enjoying my GT3 anyways. Cars are NOT investments unless you're getting a GT2RS at MSRP and don't drive them. They made over 6000 991.1RS. I highly doubt it'll be hard to find. There is a lava orange in SF thats listed for 182k without a buyer for months. This is just reality. If you're looking for a .2 GT3 I don't think the OP's offer for a trade with a .1 RS is all that bad.

Finally some voices of reason.

In Canada, dealers were asking 270k a couple of months ago. Now, they've dropped to $240k. I know of a couple of private party sales around the $220k mark. In US dollars, this works out to a hair under $170k. And we're still in the middle of summer, with no .2RS deliveries yet. Once the new RS arrives, I have no doubts prices will drop well below $200k CAD.

My plan all along was to buy an RS for my birthday in a few weeks, but at this point buying a .1RS would be like catching a falling knife.

Good summary GT3RUS. For those that choose to live in reality and take actual data points into consideration -- then it makes complete sense what you're saying.

For sellers that base their asking prices on "retail" or "what's listed" then they think high net worth individuals are stupid. Case in point, take a look at what this guy is claiming below..

The current market value for this particular color and spec. is around $35k over MSRP based on actual selling prices.

There’s a lot more info regarding this on Rennlist so please feel free to do your own research. I’ve lowered the price on mine to 30k over MSRP.

The MSRP on that one is $191K. So the asking price is still $7K above MSRP. I think much depends on build. The lower build price will get relatively more money while the very high MSRP RS's ($215+) might actually lose some money. This particular RS might not have any problems actually getting sold at or slightly above MSRP. Does that mean all RS's are being sold at $180-190K? Probably not. I was offered $200K by a MB dealership in Dallas for my RS (MSRP $205K) as a trade-inand I declined it. A Ferrari dealership is willing to give only $190K as a trade in for a Speciale. Sale price may also depend on wether it is a fire sale. Some people are less patient than others or don't know how to sell a car to their best advantage or have another inbound Porsche/Ferrari or something else and they don't have much time. It may also depend on season. Others may pre-trade in their vehicle because they have an MSRP allocation coming in and they don't want to negotiate the price of their .1 RS to create goodwill. By October/November through February/March prices will dip further or most of the sellers who have some sense will take their cars off the market and wait till it is spring again. Half the country will have put the cars away for winter anyway and a savvy buyer can pick up an RS for a very good price. If, and it makes economic sense, Porsche decides there will be another large round of allocations for the .2 RS in the spring of 2019 or start a new round of .2 GT3 allocations, then the market could be even more unstable.

I am sure OP will be able to find at least one .1 RS that he could buy for his .2 GT3 that still commands a mild ADM ($15-20K) and puts it in the ball park of a $180-190 MSRP .1 RS. I think you should keep the .2 GT3 though OP. I think it is a better motor. I have both of these cars and I think the .2 GT3 pulls better although I have only tested it to 6000 RPM so far. The MT is a beauty and the suspension is quite definitely firmer in my opinion. However, you could not go wrong if you get a .1 RS. Whatever you do be sure to enjoy it in good health!

Matter of fact is that someone have a PTS, or one with under 1k miles, they're not going to get anywhere near msrp for their car. Not even 190k.

FACT:

2016 GT3RS White (6,000 miles) - MSRP 215k Asking price 220k 3 months ago, now lowered to 190k with no buyers
2016 GT3RS Lava Orange (also 6,000 miles) - MSRP 185k, asking 182k and sitting for 2 months, no buyers.
2016 GT3RS White (16,000 miles) - MSRP 215k Asking price 182k - 2 months, no buyers.
2016 GT3RS White (14,000 miles) - MSRP 210k Asking price 200k lowered to 185k over the course of 5 months, no buyers.

This tells me some RS sellers are letting the cars sits which means it'll continue to depreciate. The ones that actually sold are sold for less than these asking prices. Most likely 175k range right now. Someone else suggested that it'll drop to 160k by next spring which I can see happening. I don't suggest anyone to wait to sell - the selling time is now, these are not classic cars that appreciates in a few months or years time - I never understood the idea of "waiting through the winter" - cars loses value every few months, they're not going to magically pull in more money in a years time.

I don't suggest anyone wait to buy either - just be aware of the depreciation so you're not surprised (or as a member said above - falling on the sword).
