Default Tubi mufflers for 996

Category: Engine - Exhaust
Price (no $ sign please): $650
Private or Vendor Listing: Private Listing
Part fits (select ONLY those which apply): 996
Location (Region): Midwestern
Item Condition: Used

This is a cored out set of Tubi race cans for a 996. Internally these had just a U-shaped perforated pipe connecting the inlet to the outlet and some wadding material surrounding it. The internal pipe in one of the cans developed a crack so they were both opened up and cored. The outlet pipes were reinforced at that time as well. They are not obnoxiously loud like I thought they would be, as a matter of fact they are about the same noise level as my Cargraphic Super Sound cans. These are extremely light, I'd say probably 25lbs. per can lighter than the stock mufflers. Factory slash tips and mounting brackets are included, they are ready to bolt on. The sound is very Super Cup car like, not for the timid, but won't **** off the neighbors. $650 shipping included (which will cost me around $150, so I'm really not going lower than that). These mufflers are $2,500 plus brackets, tips, and shipping when new.

When you say you cored them, do you mean you removed all internals?

Yes, the U-pipe and wadding was taken out of each.

By taking the internals out did that improve them in any way? Is there a downside to doing this? Very interested but would like to know performance and or emissions impacts good and/or bad. Thanks.

No emissions impact since it's all post cats, cans are super light now. Sound nothing like straight pipes which are raspy. These still have enough back pressure to not lose low end torque. They have a hollow / exotic sound. I have used both my Cargraphic cans and these for the past year, switched over twice. Similar enough in sound that I can't justify keeping both sets.

Good analogy. For what it's worth I have a buddy with a 2000 996 that we tried some straight pipes on over the weekend. Crazy loud and nothing like these Tubi cans. You could feel the back pressure loss on his car as well. No such issues with these.

None, and they are relatively quiet at part throttle. Not annoying at highway speeds.
