Good plan, that should bring a wide audience to it. Looks to be a great car for the right buyer, GLWTS.

It has sold too many times, hence the BaT angle.

After several emails exchanged with BringATrailer, it seems I wont be going that route.

We had a disagreement on the value of the car, so they wouldnt let me set a reasonable reserve price for their auction process. Initially they told me I needed to be priced under 30k, which is ridiculous. I'm really disappointed with their decision to not list my car.

With that said, I will still entertain a sale, but I'm not in a hurry. The sale was just to clear some space in my garage, but that isnt an issue now.

In the interest of transparency, I will quote the email exchange with BringATrailer below. I will no longer be interested in bidding or selling with their auction process.

Here is a stock Lightweight that we sold for $41k: http://bringatrailer.com/listing/199...3-lightweight/

We think the market for your car is under $30k.

I am very confident in my price. I have had excellent feedback from rennlist and m3 forum. [I was told] A dealer in SoCal just sold a 20k mile car with an s50b32 swap for 105k. It was flawless no doubt, but not an original motor. These cars have really jumped up in value in he last few years, if I had the original motor we would be talking about double my reserve even in current "tracked" condition. Having said all of that, a slick top 65k mile "non ltw" M3 with s54 swap would trade for 25K+ so I believe sub 30 for my car is not accurate. My price is very fair.

The weather here has been exceptionally bad, once it clears up I will have some more professional detailed photos taken. I am not in a rush to get the auction started, I just wanted to get the ball rolling.

I have turned down several offers on this car because I was overwhelmed with interest and thought a transparent auction process was the best route. Many posters on the forum seem to agree. As a long time reader and bidder on BAT, I am really disappointed you would take this stance. If that is your final word, then I will move forward with working out a deal privately.

With all that said, I am in no rush to sell. It just seemed like the right time, since I was considering buying a 997 GT3, but even that desire comes and goes. If I have to enjoy the car for another track season, so be it!

Good move - have heard them do this on other cars as well. Not sure but I am guessing the more rare cars the better - regardless of reserve. If it was another standard e36 m3 i would understand.

I think they are wrong on this one also, the LTW is a highly collectible car and your track mods are easily reversible. A s54 swap isn't considered a track mod. The 1/2 cage and aero...that's all I can see.

I should have bought this one, however I'm out for good now, having bought a BMW 2002 M2.

GLWS.

I don't get it, why are they so firm on their reserve? It's your car, so you should be the one to set the reserve you're comfortable with. I think $38k was well within reason. I didn't know that BaT operated like this, thanks for sharing.

According to BAT yours isn't worth $30k, but a 100 mile car missing the strut bar and x-brace is currently at $128k

http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1995-bmw-m3-23/

Bump for a nice car for sale at a reasonable price.

I think it is a great car. However, I also see LAX's point that the original engine would make it more desirable. If that thing was still lying around...

Great car. BaT makes the most profit from the car selling. They get 5% of the selling price from the buyer up to $5K. So the $250 sellers fee is small compared to their potential earnings. Hence why they push for lower reserve pricing. So, if you sold your car for $40K, the buyer would be paying $42K. So your typical BaT buyer would be looking at a $44K investment with shipping.

i expect that car to go above 175k.

I also have a hunch that they knew that car was coming through the auction pipeline and didnt want to somehow "risk" that auction by listing my concurrently. Fine with me.

I have deposit on my car.
