Default 993 964 996 986 FVD Atiwe Airbag steering wheel

Category: Accessories
Price (no $ sign please): $750
Private or Vendor Listing: Private Listing
Part fits (select ONLY those which apply): 964, 986, 993, 996
Location (Region): South
Item Condition: Used

Used in excellent condition Atiwe FVD airbag leather steering wheel with leather wrapped extended hub. Purchased new from FVD Brombacher 3 years ago and was very quickly swapped out for a non airbag Momo wheel. Barely used like new condition. 340mm diameter. Smaller diameter gives much more legroom and wheel rim is much thicker than stock. I've had this in climate controlled storage for a while but will likely never install an airbag wheel so it's up for sale. Comes with all original documentation. Same wheel used by RUF. These steering wheels are no longer produced so this could be your last option for recently manufactured airbag steering wheels. Replace your decades old airbag in your 993 964 996 986.

Do you have the wiring kit that comes with the wheel (airbag pigtail)?

From memory, one of the wires from the clockspring connects directly to the airbag module. When I removed the wheel, the factory wiring to the clockspring is still intact. I'm not sure what you mean by wiring pigtail since the steering wheel as pictured is how it is supplied by Atiwe.

These are the wires that I got with my other hub adapter from Carnewal. It looks like your wheel has all the parts from the second picture already installed, but I was wondering about the cable in the first picture.
Reading online, it seems like on some people are saying that the clockspring wire plugs right in fine, and others say you need to use the cable in the first picture or you'll get intermittent airbag lights.
It may be model dependent.

P.S. These wheels are a great upgrade, and NLA.

Is this the usual design with the horn buttons just at the thumbs, or is this the stock config where you press the horn in the center?

Horn buttons at the thumbs. Entire center is the airbag unit.

I can confirm that a wiring pigtail is NOT required for 993 996 986. The Atiwe airbag module has a factory style connector and the airbag plug from the 993 clockspring attaches directly to this. See photo I just took below showing the clockspring connector. I know for certain that 996 and 986 have the same connector. I thought 964's had the same also. Perhaps you have an early Atiwe airbag that does not have the Porsche connector? I can supply a wiring pigtail off of a spare 993 clockspring I have for a nominal amount for those who need one however I don't think anyone would require it.

I replaced my stock 996 GT3 wheel with this same wheel and I love it. Especially on the track.

Raid airbags made after 2008 need to be installed with the special Raid connector.
Otherwise chances are high that the airbag light goes on.

If it is made before 2008, the original airbag connector can be used.
