Interesting product!

How is the amount of revs on the blip determined?

Delay = number of milliseconds from simulataneous brake+clutch before blip starts?
Duration = number of milliseconds blip is maintained?

Thanks
Matty

Hi Matty,

Good questions. Here is the explanation:

I guess I'm a bit confused. The OEM stuff knows the gear ratios and what gear you are likely to downshift into. A shift from fifth to 4th needs much less rev increase and a 3rd to second, so I'm not quite understanding how this would work?

[QUOTE=RennKit-Dave;15083864]Absolutely - vehicle just needs an e-throttle.

[QUOTE]

I think all the 997s are throttle by wire (e-throttle)?

Just ordered one. A buddy with the same car as me put one of these in last year. Took 2-3 seconds off his consistent lap time.

We took a few video snippets of the installation in a friend's 996 Turbo. It was very hard to video as there is no room to work and keep a video camera going. It simply shows fastening the device, and connecting a few wires. The quality is fairly poor. The installation required 2 hours, much of it getting into the right position for reaching the wires and installing the T-taps. Six wires, basically that's it. Not hard, just hard to get to wires under the dash. Having an assistant is helpful. Everything is visible once on the floorboard. Once installed, we had a blast playing with the settings and tuning in the rev matching on downshift.

You can watch the short video

Just had a friend of mine install this on his 2015 Cayman and it was transformational. Great little upgrade for sure.

It can't. But I can see how one could set the system up for the most common downshift and the others would be compromised which for most people would be better than a perfect heel/toe downshift every once in a while and poor ones a lot of the time. Plus you don't have to think about it. In the linked video the guy only uses 3-5 and only 5 once. Setting it up for the ideal 4-3 downshift would seem to work very well. Not if you used 2-5 and a lot of up and down I can see how it may not work so well. But I bet most tracks would use 3-5.

I am not a track rat, and am just a street driver. So, I was a little dismissive of the newer auto blip features.

Until I tried it under pressure at the Porsche Experience Center LA. I found that in realtime exercises, when I tried to heel-toe in my usual way, I lifted off the brake slightly, which trail braked through my line and upset everything. The instructor finally said "Just let the transmission do it for you and focus on your braking." That made a huge difference. Now I am a convert.

I wonder if my 987 needs one of these. Hmmm.
