So I think there’s air in my coolant lines - during spirted driving my temp was fluctuating over 200 - at least when I pulled into garage and pressed the pedal - was hearing some weird exhaust noises during the ride. Think my battles are going ...

How does this come off? I can’t get the darn radiator line out - clip is up, in fact I pulled it off completely at one point

I wanted to give a quick update on my JB Weld repair on my coolant pipes. I had to take my intake manifold off yesterday (intake valve decarbonizing). So it was a good time to see how the repair was holding up. And it appears to just fine. I was a little concerned about the heat cycling effects on the repair but there are no signs of trouble.

As handy as you are, why don't you just pin both lines with a set screw and never be concerned again?

Honestly, I don't think it's necessary. I feel that pinning is more of a band-aid until a permanent fix can be done. Pinning will keep the pipe from popping out but I don't think it will fix a leaking joint. The JB Weld seems to have taken care of both problems.

Default P/N typo

Excellent post. FYI, the oil separator seals are 948-107-437-20 and 948-107-438-20. The typo is "437" and "438", vs the incorrect "427" and "428" in the instructions. Hopefully someone can edit the original post.

It's my DIY. Thank you pointing that out. I will fix it.

Thanks for taking time to write-up your experience and shopping list. Just ordered the parts to do most of this on our car. Really appreciate the time you put in to documentation!

I'm glad it's helpful.
For some reason I can't find the edit button.

Work is done. Hopefully I don't find anther weak spot in the cooling system. So far, things seem to be holding better than before.

I had previously replaced the vent house, but still had a leak. My biggest remaining leak was under the thermostat housing from when I previously replaced the vent hose, which involves removing one of the thermostat housing bolts to take out the fuel rail. The old seal was almost rock hard, so not surprised that disturbing it made a big leak.

In case it is useful to others, I also needed the o-ring for the pipe that goes in the front of the thermostat housing. I used one from a nitrile o-ring assortment kit I already had. The official part number is 999 701 825 40 (O-ring 19,6 X 3,53). The one in my kit was 13x3.5, which is pretty close (my kit's 13 is ID, I think the official one is OD).

If you have the bolted thermostat housing, you may also want to replace the o-rings on those pipes too. Qty 4 (2/pipe) of 999 701 083 40 (aka 38X3N). I didn't replace mine when I swapped to a used thermostat housing from eBay, so we will see how long those hold up.

Oh no... The front hose or rear? Are you still factory original?

Don't know. Factory original except for water pump thermostat.

Going to do the Serp belt and hunt down the leak. Ordered a slew of parts and we will see what gets replaced.
