My S4 messed itself on way to C&C... embarrassing
At about 5:00 AM, in the dark, I saw this all over the windshield from the inside....
I get to Katie's C&C and can barely see it is everywhere. After the sun comes up I see this...
On the way to Katie's I was trying to set the cruise control. It apparently was the first time I've ever missed the correct lever, in the dark, and pushed the windshield sprayer stalk FORWARD...instant rusty muddy spray all over the front.
So...I'll be rebuilding the entire squirter system this winter while I have the bumper cover off for repainting.
Today was an unusually good day to go to Katie's. Lots of unusual cars and vehicles today, from a Stanley Steamer to a massive military 6x6....and it must have been Magnum PI day...at least four 308s. And one of our own 928 Rennlisters arrived in this Calloway Aeroback supercharged Vette with 757 hp (if my memory is correct).
Here are just a sample of what attended today (starting with my favorite Beck 550 Spyder replica...owned by a guy named Pete who has really added some cool authentic pieces)...

Haha..whoops! When I first saw the picture I thought you had just experienced a catastrophic head gasket failure. Yeah those headlight sprayers are very aggressive. The seem to me to be at least 3 times the pressure of the windshield sprayers.

I didn't know they worked. My fault for letting the water get so rusty. But why all the rust? I suspect the metal ring Porsche put inside to reinforce the filler neck (bad idea) caused this. The right squirter eventually plugged up. I can back flush it and it works for a squirt or two. The rusty water than started coming out the windshield squirters, which have always sprayed clear...so the high pressure system has somehow contaminated the whole system. The learning never ends...

Fraggle - it was a really great morning. The sound of the Stanley Steamer approaching was great...like waiting for a train to appear. This one had the snake with open mouth breathing steam. Very cool. Hope your car is getting sorted.

while getting the bumper repainted you might consider filling the holes. I had it done and rarely used them because they sprayed the entire car when used. It cleans up the look of the 928 nicely.

Yeah, I removed those worthless warts off my front bumper cover too when I had my re-spray; along with the body-side moldings, roof antenna, rear bumperettes, rear wiper and of course, I whacked the rear wing off for a much smoother look overall. Great pics of some very cool rides; especially the Ferrari Shooting Brake.

Great morning at Katie's and some really different cars.
The "sound off" of Mopars will ruin the show, always.
The guys w/ the 308s were funny, mostly the ones w/ mustaches like Thomas Magnum

Yeah...the guy with the 6x6 was planning to load his hummer in the bed...but had a flat tire after picking the 6x6 up at 11:00 PM. The shredded tire was in the bed. The wheel/tire combo must weigh at least a few hundred pounds.
The Mopar guys looked like the cast of West Coast Customs (Nothing wrong with that...just painting the picture)...and they didn't care if they caused another C&C banning.
Chris - you totally called the 308 guys when one came around a turn in the parking lot and you said "Let's see if he has the mustache". Sure enough...and the ball cap. But this is all part of the fun at Katie's.
The odd stuff is the best. Didn't see the custom hot rod with Ferrari engine this time. I have pictures of the whole car from another weekend, but here is the engine from a few weeks ago...

Hey Captain Slow - I was there too. Glad I got to see your S4 - I didn't get there until 7 so I had to park my '88 up top. Lot's of very nice cars there this weekend, but always good to see another 928 there. Not going to be many more nice weekends in the DMV so I think this may be the last gasp for the season.
