Default Access to rear wiper motor

My rear wiper motor has stopped and i have a replacement. How do I get to the motor in the boot/tailgate?

I open the tailgate....then what?

Thank you

To explain further, I have the tailgate up. I've removed the strip of plastic along the width of the rear inner window.

What I can see is the Allen screw holding the motor in place and the bar which moves the blades if I turn it. It's a copper/brass colour that butts against a metal barrier, stopping the blades in place.

I can't for the life of me imagine the new motor slipping in such a small hole.

Ive had a good look around and the metal tailgate doesn't have any gaps to get the new motor in.

What I can see are the seals of metal where the inner and outer skins meet. Surely I don't have to open the tailgate in half like a clam, just to slip a new motor in!

I know I'm being dim, I know there's an obvious answer, but I'm stuck.

Last year a driver hit me head on at 70mph whilst I was riding my motorcycle. A year on and my brain works, but is easy to confuse!

Any pointers and I'd be grateful, I've googled and searched everywhere!
Thanks

Welcome DomShelly..
Can you tell us what year your car is?

The wiper motor is not in the tailgate but behind the panel that is between the tail lights inside the boot area. There should be 2 thumb screws, turn those and you can remove the panel.
If you look in the middle you will see the motor. Off the top of my head I seem to remember it is held in by 2 bolts, very easy to get in and out.

Let us know when you have located it...

Oh my goodness, how dim I've been!
At least I waited for a reply before I began prising the tailgate apart!
I've got it now, never thought to look down a few feet. Thanks very much indeed.
