Default This is what a failed fuel pump check valve looks like

I've been having some hard-start issues when the car is warm, and some quick research pointed me to the fuel pump check valve as the likely culprit. Decided to do some 'while you're at it' jobs, and rust-proofed the fuel tank spider with converter and Por-15, new fuel pump and filter, and new hard line from the pump to the filter.

The faulty check valve flowed freely in both directions, which means that fuel pressure was not maintained when the car shut down. Still not sure why this only was an issue for warm-starts, but regardless... replacement fixed the issues.

Here's some pictures of what a failed check valve looks like. Notice the doubled spring where it broke in half, and the off-center ball.

Here's the fuel tank cradle after rust proof. This this had collected a TON of debris that was full of moisture and causing the steel bands and tray to rust away. Wire brush, rust-converter, and a few top coats of POR-15 took care of everything. I used a 10' roll of medium gap neoprene foam from home depot to replace the old cushion strips, which worked perfectly.

Theory is the fuel boils as it heat soaks but pressure raises the boiling point......
