Explosion of SPB

Now, now, no need to get testy. I never said SPB wasn't a good class, as I think it is. I was merely suggesting it's a little early to declare it the "best class in PCA history."
One thing that is really cool about PCA is occasionally a legit pros shows up, typically as an enduro co-driver. A few off the top of my head include Wolf Henzler, Lee Keen, David Murray and Patrick Long. I was at Sebring when Wolf Henzler got his PCA rookie license awarded...now that was funny! It's fun to try and chase a lap record from a top pro, that you know is basically unreachable.

those numbers do not include other series. In the POC ( west coast ) we has 19 spec boxster race in our Tribute to Le Mans weekend. Of those, only 3 racers are listed in PCA. Its a very huge and growing class.

Sadly, the Spec 986 class (=SPB) appears to have been retired so I'll have to run it in GTS2. It doesn't make much difference in practical terms - the other locals with 986 race cars built them to PCA rules, so we'll have an unofficial SPB group within the larger GTS run group. As long as we can beat the BMWs... 😁

Love racing with the SPB group, definitely the largest, most competitive class out here on the left coast. We're still working to grow the class and match #s with other regions. I think we have 15 racers up here in NorCal plus a healthy contingent in SoCal. Great folks to race with and hang out with in the paddock/garage, the main reasons I chose SPB a few years back.

its a great field! greatest?? not sure you can really use that word. like asking a grandma who is her favorite grandchild....
i might call SPB the greatest class because ultimately its maybe the most cost contained - relative to # of entrants- relative to competition level- relative to skill levels.... because its just club racing and part of me thinks trying to keep costs low and being normal about this sport is important. if my dad ever heard what we burn thru in fuel on a weekend, or tires, or hauling, or support, or repairs...if he were alive, he'd probably beat me silly.
