Started my 400+ mile road trip. Car is running spectacularly well, temps on 280/1/101 never getting above the first tick, though I think I may have discovered a slight problem with the footwell air mixer - warm air was flowing even when the setting was on cold. I turned the whole footwell system off, and that resolved the warm air flowing, but good to know. All the other mixers are working fine. Have not completed my AC retrofit, but thankfully it's unseasonably cool here in Healdsburg and as we head towards the coast I think we're going to be fine with natural aspiration

Well got back alive from the 5-year anniversary road trip, and car performed incredibly well. Did 488 miles, with a good chunk of that on Highway 1 over 4 nights. Never had any issues with temperature - even after doing a pretty insane hill climb from sea level to 1,700 ft to get to Fort Ross Vineyards (18% grade, crooked as Bernie Madoff), and the thermostat worked like clockwork when temps exceeded the 9 o'clock mark. Car averaged 21.8 MPG through the whole trip.
Rimowa 22" suitcase fit perfectly in the frunk and left (barely) enough space for a couple bottles of wine on the side.
Not everything was perfect - I stripped the radio and speakers out and recently pulled the A/C system for conversion to environmentally friendly r134a (unfinished), and I think there might still be a small leak in the paper heat tube in the passenger footwell that slowly dumped heat right on my wife's legs. Certainly makes me appreciate the fact that I snagged a woman willing to tolerate such things and keep her for 5 years to boot.

I have all the connectors in the front as well as the actuators for the auto-locking, as well as a large random assortment of the bolts/nuts that went along with the top, but in terms of the parts under the cloth, that was mostly tossed.

Enjoyed your project I have same car. Kept soft top but converted to manual. Do you ever remove the hardtop?
Love the title "My mini-restoration project", first dated June, 2014... and on-going. Kinda sounds like a lot (most?) of us, think mine started 10 years earlier.
I'm in the same boat. Bought a needy black/black/linen 1990 cab (low miles - 55k, lots of disuse that hurt the paint, rubber, etc) and have been slowing bringing it back (or let's be honest Marco @ TLG has). It's now mechanically running amazing so I just started getting quotes on a repaint. Looks like a fun color change is coming her way in the next few months... And then I'll be "done" (not really).
