Funny thing is that the 996 turbos I drove had pretty nice interiors overall (maybe due to full leather and good color choices?) The turbo lag and exhaust note were two negatives. I didn't find the steering any better either. Not worse, just not better.

I drove maybe 5 or 6, all coupes. Of those cars, two had the second gear popout issue (I was only looking at manuals). It was a pretty pricey fix if I remember correctly. Performance vs the 997.2 (4S) felt roughly equivalent.

Pricing was lower of course, but no warranty. The turbo lag and exhaust note were the real deal killers. I have no regrets.

I do think that they are relative bargains though...

The 996 TT driving feels smaller than a 997. The steering rack is far more direct, as the 997 rack is nonlinear and made less sensitive on-center.

We have that choice but alternative facts are winning the day here and elsewhere it seems

Not that there's anything wrong with it

At the end of the day you spend most of the time inside the car!! If the 996 interior wad anywhere as nice as the 997 i woulve gotten a 996 turbo!! But i wasnt gonna be happy ever inside that interior!! And doesnt matter how fast the car is you will get used to it and its gonna feel slow..

Absolutely! The 996 features the worst interior. The 993 was much like the earlier G-model cars, which I grew up on.

For me, 996TT over any 997.1 for sure any day of the year, however 997.2 C2S+ over 996TT.

996TT for the engine etc's racing heritage. Its biggest weakness is the manual gearbox in my opinion.

Yeah, categorizing my car based on the Man's ideas of objective measurement using an outdated, colonialist system of weights and measures is racist and sexist.

If I truly think my 997 is smaller than a 964, then your outdated system of inches and pounds is just not taking my feelings into account. It's called the imperial(ist) system for a reason. And everybody knows the metric system was invented by the lizard people to enslave humanity, so I won't even go there.

Homey ain't playing that.

BTW, although my car was painted meteor gray at the factory, today my car identifies as macadamia.

Had a 3 996s turbos (2001, 2003 and 2004 cab). Also had a 2004 996 C2 for the ex-wife. I followed that with a 997.1 to cab and a 997.2 tt. As the 993 has entered this discussion, I also had both a 993tt and a 993tt S. All of the above were purchased new and used as daily drivers except for the 993tt S. My 2001 had about 750 hp, hybrids turbos, GT2 intercoolers and etc

I picked up a used 2012 C4S in January and traded it in April/May. Wife picked up a 2010 C2 cab in May.

The 996 tts were great daily drivers and incredible cars 15 + years ago. These things were much more fun to drive than NA 997s. Lol, at turbo mag comments. I have never once thought any water cooled twin turbos had lag. The cars were a blast to drive and people making comments about lag don't have seat time or much seat time in any of the water cooled twins and obviously are new to Porsche and never drove the pre-1994 air cooled turbos.

The 996tt looks the part. I prefer the clean side inlets on the 996tt over the 997tt. That said, the 996 exterior is perhaps the worst desi

The 996 interior is much better and more comfy than the 993 interior which is essentially the same as a 964, 3.2 and going back to a SC.

Steering? The 997 has great steering and been way to long since I owned a 996 to try and compare the 2. All AWD water cooled Porsches feel about the same steering

I think we should organize a protest, or maybe an owner's manual burning.

It appears that Porsche has been trying to tell us something for a long time:
