Default Intrest in group buy for a carbon fiber laxan hood.

Just as title states. I wrote an eBay vendor that's makes carbon fiber lexan hoods so I asked what it would take to make it worth while and this was his response.

eBay
New message from: kevtec_garage (109Turquoise Star)
The minimum order for group buying will be required at least 20 hoods with pricing of $980 each for standard version and $1200 each for custom version like the ducts and vents. And on the moulding part, you will have to send us the original hood that already tested fit with the car (the hood is supposed to be in good shape). The pricing i mentioned is already included the air freight fee to US.

So would there be 20 owners here or multiple hood purchases per owner to make this happen. And you would need to put $ aside for a carbon fiber lexan hood. Here's what one looks like on a new civic.

I thought you had mixed your materials before I saw the pic. So it's c/f with a lexan window. Wonder how well he could do it and how easy the lexan would be to work your own vents in? Kinda cool though if you have a nice motor to show off.
Wonder what the downsides would be?

Just for looks? I see the lexan portion flapping around and reverberating at speed. There are no support spars underneath. Lexan at a thickness sufficient to provide some rigidity is also quite a bit heavier than carbon fiber.

Dam you Voith now I want that too! Hot meals on the go. I see clearly you are hungry for the idea. And I'm only guessing it's lexan, what if he used acrylic and the hood vaporized before your eyes. Or polyurethane instead of epoxy resin. I'll ask the maker of the hoods to be sure. And it's nice to see all the work that has been put into an engine compartments sometimes. As long as the owner does a good job routing hoses and placing items where they should go and stick with a color scheme.

I'm not fully understanding the point of having a clear window on the bonnet.

For showing off your engine. That's about it.

That's one option, another would be to put engine on the passenger seat where all the windows are already in place.

I just made a Windscreen for my racecar, I used the original windscreen to form it in in our walk-in oven at work, It formed @ 291F Not sure if a Turbo sees Temps like that but would definitely want vents somewhere...

Unfortunately the 944 engine bay, or any other production Porsche engine bay is not an art exhibition.
Yes you can make the turbo bay look nice when its all polished and clean. But the "art" is not there unless it's all custom and your work is art.

The only art Porsche has in the engine bay is under all the moving bits that you cannot see.

I don't think it would look that bad for someone that has OCD like a few here do. I would like to think my engine bay would look nice enough to display.

I currently have a few items not installed at this time. Pretty much everything you see in this photo and then some.
Looks like this

real clean

Early fuel line fire detection window? Imagine trying to clean melted lexan draped all over the intake manifold.

I would be in for an all carbon fiber hood with vents. No interest in the Lexan added.

Heck you can put me down for 2 carbon fiber hoods for my 2 track 944 turbos.
