Default OT: Rode shotgun in a GT2 yesterday

I met a fellow RLer yesterday (great guy!) and he gave me a spirited ride in his 997 GT2. For reference, to me a 997.2 Turbo is a very fast car. Insanely fast, in fact.

I truly believed that until around 3pm yesterday.

There are no words to describe this car, but if I had to pick one word, it would be "monster." There's literally no comparison to the Turbo, let alone my lowly GT3.

I think we were cruising along in 3rd gear, and getting on the throttle even then became pretty scary in a hurry. Getting traction in 1st is a challenge. Okay, it's impossible. And I swear we broke loose in 3rd. Such an angry, angry car. This car had none of the turbo lag I noticed in the 997.2 Turbo. It was pretty much instant scary. You really have to love the boys in Stuttgart for coming up with this thing. LOL.

Any negatives with this monster? A few. For one, i hope you like driving alone, because one spirited drive with the wife, and she will never get in it again. And on those rare occasions when she does, you won't be having any fun. Another negative is that once you've gotten on it once, that's where all the fun is. You aren't going to be content just slicing up the canyons. So your license is in serious jeopardy every time out with this sucker. And lastly, I could tell that this car was several levels above my pay grade. It is a handful. They don't call it the widow maker for nothing.

So...check that one off the old bucket list. Thanks Dan!

Yes they are the real "man's car" or beast vs the turbo. Glad you Got to experience it. Now imagine 60 more HP (GT2RS) or 100+ in the new upcoming version...

Thanks C.J. Yeah, this is no girly man car. I was thinking about the power of the new one, just shaking my head. Not sure i want to get in that one!

Okay...maybe.

The best thing about the GT2 is the sense of accomplishment you get every time you arrive home safely after a drive. Nothing else even comes close! It's like the Turbo and GT3 had a wild love child.

For me, in the top 3 Porsche's I've ever driven. Didn't find it as harrowing as some though, even on track. I wish I had bought one when I had the chance when still at GT3 prices. Ugh.

Can't even imagine what the next GT3 RS will be like. I'm guessing the angry bastard offspring of a 997 GT2 and a 991 GT3 RS

I am not sure which version you were in (there were a few with 612hp) but I doubt it will be faster than the .2GT3. Better not tell your wife when you order the .2GT3.

It may be a Man's car but I am Man enough to say I forbid myself to get one. At times I can struggle with self control and a car such as this would put me behind bars or, even worst, endanger Myself or Others. My life is one of restraint and knowing this is very important

You may be right but it is the way it delivers the power which is different and did not have the nannies like they have today

That is pretty much my attitude, Jimmy. If I had this car I would lose my license, or worse. Guaranteed.

Great review Rob. I also took a ride in Dans car and also for a quick spirited drive on the highway. To note, Dans car does have a full catless exhaust with a tune. Power to the wheels was north of 600 here at altitude in Colorado.

Rob pretty much perfectly describes the car to the T. If I could add anything, it would be that you need a large piece of real estate for any acceleration. You better have nothing in front of you if you want to get a pull in.

Very different from a GT3 in the delivery of power. This was much more raw, and much more violent. And, much more on the edge. Not even in the same league with a GT3, imo.

So true buddy. And that large piece of real estate includes in front of you, and to the sides lol. Such a beast. Glad you had a go at it!

Thanks for posting the pics.
