Default Strange seatbelt strap connections, anyone can tell me why?

So I was fixing some things on my bucket seats, and I had to pull belt out and I found this.

It looks factory, but I find it strange that it was sewn, it also looks like if the main stitch fails it has a backup.

Bad pictures, but do all seatbelts on 93 968s have this? This is the bottom of the belt, connecting to the floor door sill. It has maybe 6 inches then it is sewn. It is all tucked away in the plastic sleeve that normally covers it all up.

Those are usually to limit how far the belt can retract. I have other cars that have them but haven't noticed on my 968. If it's on the non-retracter side then I don't know.

Interesting, yes it is the part of the seatbelt that just bolts on the side, near the floor.

If it is on the driver's left side, where it attaches to the floor (driver's left) then that "loop" is a tear seam that indicates overloading, requiring replacement of the seat belt (per Porsche Technik).

Upon impact, it also rips to allow the seat belt to gradually extend a small amount to reduce the loading on the body.

Interesting, thanks for the post! That is what I was gathering it was, just seemed strange.

All the new belts from Porsche don't seem to have this, wonder if it was a fad at some point.
