The 6 day road rally Targa Tasmania 2017 kicked off yesterday with no less than 3 fully caged GT3 RS's and 2 Dodge Viper ACR's (one being an "extreme").
After winning last years event in a stock GT3 we have upgraded to a GT3RS - the only modification being an Evo Race Akrapovic full titanium exhaust system.
Although we won more stages than the leading Viper Extreme driver we lost a big chunk of time on the first competitive stage, which was wet. (We only got the RS 4 weeks ago and it was the first time I've driven it in the wet - I didn't want to be "that guy")
The Viper has a very soft Khumo tyre compared to the Michelin and seems to be straight "on". Once we have some temperature in the tyre we can go a bit quicker, but ultimately I think the Viper is quicker than the RS in the wet. (Well, quicker than me anyway)
In the 2 dry stages and 1 semi-wet stage we beat both the Vipers.
We really need it to dry out for the remaining 5 days or I need to buy some brave pills.
Jason and John will be hard to beat in GT2 the Viper is one hell of a car
Hope the weather clears up otherwise it can be a lottery.
In relation to "brave pills" - a former co-driver called it right "the trophy is worth about 30 bucks the car is worth a truck load more" - wise words.
Trust your tires, if they still allow six for the whole event you may have the winning hand.
