Default Michelin Sport Cup 2 Tires... Noise factor

My 2002 cab is so equipped.

Have to say that for the first couple thousand miles these tires were VERY noisy at highway speeds unless you were driving on smooth asphalt (California roads are the second worst in the nation, so smooth roads are few and far between).

Somewhere around 3000 miles they started to quiet down. I don't track the car and probably should have bought a more all around road tire. Oh well, there's always next time.

Anyone else experience high noise level from these tires?

I have Pilot Sport Cups and they are excellent on the track. Amazing grip. But for a car that never sees the track i would have gone Pilot Super Sports instead if I were you.

Timely thread, I was on the phone to the Michelin rep last week. He recommended the PS2 as the only tyre for the 996.

What size Pilot sport cup 2 did you use on the rear as they dont make a 285 30 18 AFAIK. US might have different options but here they dont have that size.

Might be an odd request but do you have any pics of them installed?

Can't get 285 30 18 here, you're lucky in the states! I'm about to buy PSS2s all round in the standard MK2 C2 size.

I bought the car from my son-in-law who bought it new. He only lives 20 minutes away, so I got to know the car very well and monitor it's maintenance. The day he bought it new, I told him to let me have a shot at it when it came time to sell.

That didn't occur until a year ago because he really loved the car (he replaced it with a new Jaguar F/R type). At the time I bought it the tires were Bridgestones badly in need of replacement. My local tire dealer (who used to work for Penske on his Indy cars) convinced me to go with the Sport Cups 2's even though I told him I wasn't going to track it.

It was bad advice. I will go with the Pilot Super Sports next time around.

Damn, thats a shame about the PSC2. What specifically dont you like about them?

They are the OEM for the 991 GT3RS if it makes you feel any better! haha

I have PSC2s on my 996 for the track. I only bought them because the R888s were sold out in my size and they were great on my 991 GT3. Frankly, For the track the R888s are much better for 996. For the street PSC2s are overkill and xpensive...PSS is the way to go, as others have already said.

Get a GT3. The noice of the engine will outweigh any tire noise anyway.

On a standard 996, I would not recommend buying PSC2 but would go with PSS.

Hey vilfredo, do you have a full picture of your car. I would like to see the color scheme...looks real nice in the pic. Might I add that you should consider a mild tint on your lower part of your taillight since it would enhance your scheme I think. THis is what it looks like on my car. Again, please show a full picture

I have Michelin Super Sports on my M3 and I find they are very noisy as well, seem too quiet down when they warm up of maybe I am just getting used to it once I start driving. They are noisier then the Blizzak winter tires I just took off!

On the 996 I just went with Bridgestone Pole Position S04 in the 225/285 factory sizes and I am very pleased with them.
