Default Mini subwoofer setup

I have an 18W/channel Alpine audio head in my '86 that I decided to keep as the sole speaker amp, but with an additional amp for subwoofers. So, I replaced the two midrange door speakers plus the two midrange speakers beside the rear seats with decent 12W mid range speakers. I Added a miniature subwoofer in a suitably miniature enclosure placed on the floor behind *each* front seat. The subwoofers are fed by a mini 100W inline amp which in turn is fed by the Alpines subwoofer output. The mini subwoofer amp fits neatly on the under dash tray. This (very) cheap setup worked quite well with the subwoofers providing almost enough output to shake the seats, but the amp's output is dialed down bit for a full bass response. I have pictures to show the subwoofer and amp placement. The subwoofers are Tang Band W3-1876S. The amp is Boss CE-102.

It sure is mini.

When you want a bit more bass, add an 8"er in an enclosure mounted in the spare tire well.

I think Hans' unit is almost ready for prime time?

An update: The Boss subamp turned out to be short lived (junk). I replaced it with a Clarion XC1410; more expensive and appropriately better quality. The amp still rests on the drivers under-dash tray. This low power system has a reasonably big sound for around 20W per speaker. As you crank up the volume to the annoy-the-neighbors level, the audio quality starts falling off. On the over hand, the setup didn't require sacrificing the spare tire, upgrading the alternator or adding scarily sized capacitors.

A great amp to run in the position you have your Clarion in is an older ADS PQ10.2. They sound fantastic and can keep SQ levels up at high volumes due to being class AB.

I have two of its bigger brothers, PH15.2, running in my 81 so I guess you can say I am a fan of their products.
