I painted all the fittings. They seemed like they were already painted from the factory anyway. Just don't paint the bleed screws

Oh, and be sure to do paint, stickers, then clear. Don't put the stickers on last, otherwise they will look like crap and not survive long.

Suggestion, place the logo sticker on prior to clear coating.

If you do not plan to clear-coat, apply the stickers when the paint is nearly dry but still tacky. I went this route when I went with the "big red" look on my 986; the un-cleared decals stayed put and always cleaned up nicely with normal care. It looked good enough 2 years later that the independent dealership where I bought my 996 (they requested my 986 in trade; I wasn't planning to sell it to them) included the brakes as part of the ad copy when they listed the Boxster.

I used a 2-part liquid caliper paint kit after using a can of brake cleaner on each corner. I masked off all of the hard lines and fittings. This wouldn't be as big a deal with spray paint, but the 2-part liquid is so thick, I think it would look crappy.

Also be advised that there's enough solvent in the mixed paint to release any brake dust you left behind during your prep work. If you have any pockets of dust still wet with brake cleaner, it will rise to the surface of the wet paint and start to flow across the surface. If I was doing this again, I would use brake cleaner, and then a coarse brush w/ hot soapy water, a rinse, and then plenty of dry time before painting.

Yeah, I've prepped calipers before. As with most paint jobs, the prep is 80% of the work. I painted 928s and they look good in red on a blue car.

I wanted to paint my calipers as well, I have the regular black.
My car is Orient Red Met., popular colors don't seem to go with the car.
I purchased two complete kits of :
G2 High Temperature Brake Caliper Paint System Set Orange G2169





I am not sure if I am going to stay with black.

You can buy the two kits for your calipers if you like.

You could always reverse the color scheme from your 928 and go with blue calipers. That might look really good.

I gave this some thought too. I think a cobalt blue would look good inside silver wheels with red. I might consider it but right now, I'm leaning to yellow. I have painted center crests on the wheels, and the yellow might give the crests a little help to stand out. The thing I'm concerned about with hellow is cleaning them. I know it'll need to be done often, but blue would hide a bit of the brake dust.

What colour would be best with arctic silver? Yes I drive one of those silver 996s. Thoughts. Not sure about yellow, but I kind of like the craziness of yellow.

I think that just about any color could look good with a silver car. If you decide not to go with the classic red calipers, then why not do something even more crazy than yellow? How about Acid Green?

I'm planning on powder coating mine yellow when I R&R the seals.

What are you guys using to strip the paint? Air craft paint remover?

As others have said - although technically the color is used to designate the type of brakes within the Porsche world - the rest of the world is clueless so I wouldn't worry about it. I wouldn't do yellow calipers with a red car (id: McDonalds). But, lime green would look cool. Red / red would also be great. Its all up to your personal preference though.
