Race Car
My first in 1973 was a 914 2.0, bought from Al Holbert. Fantastic car. Shoulda kept it.
I got tired of being passed on the straights at Driver's Ed, so got a 74 S in 1976.
In 1978 I lucked into the untitled "factory special '78 SC" in the picture, ("family" engine, no AC, no radio, no sound deadening, big oil radiator in fender, spoilers) built for a high speed ad promotion run at Bonneville but never run there- which I kept for 30 years; tracked all over the East, unusually fast and totally reliabile (that is, after the requsite "oiler" chain tensioners, intake pop off valve, non-rubber center clutch). Shoulda kept it, but I had outgrown tracking, set it upon for the sweet again and, one 95 degree F (no AC) summer day...
Found a 200 mile old 1978 Boxster RS-60, with AC a top that went down, PSE, special trim and a number badge! Great car, unmatched exhaust wail and handling. Swore off 911s on the spot and took it home to keep forever. PS: the SC went up to the track that weekend and got grabbed by a collector on the spot- clearly I shoulda kept it!
In March 2012, went to the 991 launch party, and joked to the dealer about how nice it would be to have an S with leather, PSE and SPASM. Three days later he called and told me he "got my car". I told him I didn't order any! Then I saw it. Got a good trade too. It will be very hard to move on from this one.

Only 3 so far, or 3.5 if you count the w124 E500. But they cover the past 17 years. I guess I keep my cars too long, get sort of attached to them. I bought the '73 911E in 2000 (sold in 2009), the 964 in 2009 (still have it) and picked up the 991.2 in August of 2016. The Benz didn't last long, needed too much work to be a daily driver.

I am the OP!
There is nothing true about keeping a Porsche "too long". I kept my 993 for 18 years and the guy who owns it will not let me drive it because he beats it to death. I tried but could not.
Think about the situations I have gone through. On the many occasions I thought I needed a new car, there was no need because I had a Porsche. If you truly needed a new car, what would you trade a Porsche for after owning Porsches and experiencing them new for 43 years continuously. I have yet to buy another brand since 1974. 'nuf said! Let's just relax and enjoy the Porsches we own. I do at the age of 73. I bought my first new Porsche at 40 yoa and I missed many years.

True freeman, I know what you are saying. Maybe "too long" was an exaggeration. Just saying that sometimes I wish I'd had the chance to try out more cars. But the ones I've has have been a lot of fun and I'm glad I've had them. It's just a matter of the grass being greener on the other side of the fence and needing to realize my side isn't so bad.

The perception that only the rich jerks at my high school and college drove Porsches kept me from even thinking about one until I got an '85.5 944. It was Guards Red with Fuchs alloys, just like the one in this pic (except the car in the pic is not mine, and neither is the pic - we only shot pics with film back then).
Then with kids and family, that car had to go in favor of a line of performance sedans in-between until my current car, a 991TT. It was worth the wait, but I did "miss" the air-cooled, lift throttle oversteer era.
