Default Nav head unit to aftermarket double din, Metra part #

My system is the double din nav with CD player below. 6 speaker system. It's a non Bose. I may tackle this install myself. What metra harness is used to install? Is it the 70-1787 or the 70-1784?

Also, will the factory amp work with the aftermarket head unit? I've read different post that states that it will and that it won't. Am I looking to buy a new amp now as well? Thanks guys.

If I remember right, you have the PCM1 analog (i.e. non-Most) based system, correct?

If you're choosing between these two wire harnesses, the 70-1787 is the one to purchase because your amp needs the pre-amp signals from the HU via RCA outputs. Remember, in Porsche vehicles, the amp powers *all* speakers not just the subs like in most other setups. That's still okay. You can wire up the system as is, but keep in mind, this harness does not support sub channel. Basically, you'll need a HU with front and rear RCA pre-amp outputs. (they're rare - most aftermarket HU only provide one pair of outputs) If you want to feed a sub-channel, you'll need to run that separately.

Thank you b3freak!! Not sure of the exact system I have but Def not a bose. The head unit has separate USB outputs 2 and a sub, I think.

I knew you'd have an answer as you upgraded your head unit too.

Did you also have to buy the antenna adapter?

Thanks again.

I converted it to the U.S. system antenna. I didn't use an adapter.

Just make sure you're HU supports front and rear pre-amps... and sub channel pre-amp output would be a bonus if your car has the door subs. Your car (although analog), can still be the "HIFI" system which is a 10 speaker - 6 channel setup.

Yes it comes with front, rear and subwoofer. Though my system doesn't have a subwoofer. I suppose it leaves room for upgrade. I purchased new speakers for door and rear. Not sure the amount of speakers behind grills. Just that there is dash, door and rear speakers.

Default Update on install

Had the unit installed. Replaced the head unit by a local shop along with rear camera. Used the metra installation kit and it worked just fine. Also had them take out the nav cd drive and install the pocket replacement that comes with the metra kit.

Next will be a new amplifier as I installed new 4" dash, 5.25 door speakers, and replaced the rear with 6.5 speakers. You should note that the door speakers are 2 ohm while all others are 4 ohm. (this is a non bose system)
