Can anyone shead any light on why my bose system sounds so bassy. I thought a speaker had blown but if i knock down the base as far as it goes which is -7 then its ok ish when listening to the radio. The cd sounds slightly better. But the annoying thing is it loses that setting every time you get back in the car you have to re set it grrrrr

its a facelift 996 targa 2002 absolutely as standard with bose system. The base from the massive unit in the passenger footwell is unbearable

i think someone said if you have grounding or earth problems possibly caused by later phone kits fitments this can happen but i cannot find anything about the subject on here.

You may have to conduct a more invasive search by process of elimination to zero in on the problem. I'm a little confused why you have CR-220 on a 2002 Targa. If I'm not mistaken, Porsche discontinued it before the Mk2 996. You should have the CDR-220 HU. But if it's got a cassette deck on the HU, then it's definitely a CR-220. Wonder if the previous owner swapped out the unit? That may explain the problem with it losing it's memory. The Porsche radios in the 996 are manufactured by Becker and the CR-220 would need switched and constant 12V to operate. The content 12V feeds the radio all the time to keep memory setting intact. Switched 12V tell the unit to turn on and off. Make sense. If the previous owner installed a CR-220, the wiring harness may be incorrect for the older CR-220 model even though it seems to work aside from the EQ issue and loss of memory.

Got an idea.... take a picture of the hood tag that lists all the options on the car and we'll look up what the had from the factory. OK?

wow loads to take in. will take a pic of label and try and post on here tomorrow ( time difference uk ) just assumed original as cd changer in luggage compartment and tape cassette stowage system in front where most have the cd slots

whilst i usually like to keep things original i wouldn't have a problem with buying a porsche cd head unit and swapping it if it was as simply as removal and plugging in and re fitting

Socket A4 is the one that's not connected (or the fuse has blown) - the unswitched (constant) power is what prevents the settings from being lost when the car is turned off.

I don't know why the default setting sucks, but ensuring that the continuous +12v is working should keep the radio from losing your settings between drives.

Thank you for your reply it will be great if it something as simple as this. If there is no permenant +12v as you are implying would it still be able to hold and store its radio station pre sets?
