NewToMe #587, 1978 928
Recently picked up #587. Mocha with dark brown leather. 5-speed, non-sunroof. I am the third owner, the last having had it for 20 years. Runs great, needs normal electrical work, cam tower leaks, LR control arm bushings are shot, etc.
It was largely unmolested. Has original, working radio. Even has the cool orange box with the extra bulbs in it.
So far, I cut and polished the car, repaired some vacuum hoses, installed a short shifter (bushings were hammered, so why not)changed all fluids, and did the plugs, wires, cap, rotor.
I have a thing for brown porsches (this is my third) so I will be moving forward with a driver restoration. Classic 9 is sending me dash, pod, and seat leathers, and I imagine a respray will be in order shorty thereafter.
I do have the correct 16" phone dials on my shelf. The Turbo Twists were too good to pass up.

thanks man! It has had some respray work done in the past. Prior to the previous owner, so at least 20 years old. It isn't great, but at least it shined up. Ill make the necessary investment to get this thing cherry.

Looks real nice.
You might consider painting those quarter surrounds matte black so they blend better with the car.
That model year was the only one with those chrome trim pieces if I recall.

Nice Mocha FWIW if your going to get the car repainted I would suggest to paint it before you install the interior otherwise it will get covered in overspray and it will never look great after that. Goodluck on your project

MrMerlin, thanks. Been there, done that. I have to do the interior asap. The paint will wait until fall probably. I'll yank seats, etc and mask the inside. Then back mask the doors. Its a pain, but its doable

Erik! Beautiful and you're the luckiest guy with that '78, since i know the price you paid to pick up this rare bird! The last owner didn't know what gem he had on hand, but looks like he found a great owner and caretaker. Join the group and pay the membership. This forum is the reason I felt comfortable starting this hobby and working on them.
Lastly, don't forget me if you're going to sell!

Nice looking ride. Love that color, my 944 was mocha...and I miss it dearly.
Anyhow, great looking 78. It would be nice to see more pictures of her, even before you start the restoration. Especally, under the hood and interior. Us OB guys eat that stuff up.
Brian.

I will get a bunch more pics of everything before taking it apart. John Holleran has it now for the cam tower leak. When I get it back its getting blown apart for the interior and suspension fixes.
Hoi, your excitement for the car convinced me to keep it!
