7 Things you Should Know About the Mighty Porsche 917

Did anyone ever do 260mph in the 917/30? I believe it, just curious who did it!

 

I don't know about 260 but it did lap Talladega at an average speed above 221. I attended a PCA charity event at Bobby Rahal's house in the early 2000s. He had just returned from the Le Mans classics event. He defined insanity as going down the Mulsanne straight over 200 MPH in a 30 year old race car. He said everyone got out of his way as the car was wandering a bit.
Edit: It was 917/021 in September of 2002.

I recall 245 mph for the 917/30 from Excellence Was Expected. But who knows, 260 might be possible with 1580 hp ...
