Default 1st mechanical failure

After visiting friends 10 or so miles up the road I arrived home and found this:

1st failure after 18 1/2 years and about 89k miles.

The one screw that holds the cluster in place had loosened enough to cough this thing out. Since the screw was still there I tightened it back up and everything is fine again.

No scuffs or other damage.

Wow - glad no scuffs. I thought the engine hood covered the piece that holds the light in place. Was the outside edge properly inserted in its slot?

yep... the engine hood covers the screw and the slot for the outside is fine, so the cluster must have shaken loose.

no visible scuffs or any other damage.

I think you need to leverage the power of social media to bring Porsche to its knees.

I've found those screws loose on several occasions. Probably should put some locktite on them. Lucky!!!

I think its great that Porsche foresaw this failure mode and made the wiring harness strong enough to double as a safety tether to prevent loss of the @$700 item and to prevent crowd injury if it cleared the catch fence once detached!
