Default Carbon fibre exhaust tips

Newbie here.

I see some exhaust tips from FabSpeed and kuro carbon that offer carbon fibre exhaust tips.

Can these withstand the heat over time and will the gloss finish fade?

Anyone use the UK made Kuro Carbon X tips?

TIA

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I would stick with SS tips. They're great looking and very easy to keep looking new - just use a bit of Blue Magic metal polish on them and any carbon residue is gone.

Thanks Phil. I may be stupidly concerned that they may melt?

Why wouldnt you go with CF? Just personal taste in looks?

Lion, I have no personal experience with carbon tips, but would find it hard to believe that Fabspeed, or any other company for that matter, would put out a product that would melt as a result of intended use. It would just seem crazy.

Like Phil, I have S/S tips and love them, but I'm a CF freak and can totally see why you might be considering these. A friend with a Masi GT has CF tips and has had no issues as far as I know. Hopefully some others with first hand knowledge and real world experience can chime in on their experiences. Good luck.

Thanks Jockey. I figured it's a dumb question but thought I'd ask regardless being a Newbie. Mine is a white CS and I'm getting carbon for the wing mirrors and the side venta so I thought perhaps carbon tips against the white rear diffuser may look good as well.

There are no dumb questions!

With the mirrors and vents in CF, tips in CF would definitely tie all those elements together. Sounds like a great plan to me. I love CF against white.

Be sure to share some pics once this starts to come to fruition and welcome to the forum

I'm just not a huge CF fan in general. I think tips in CF would look old pretty quickly. Agree Fabspeed wouldn't put tips on that would melt, but they do get awfully hot and I personally like the look of S/S.

Lion, it looks like your concerns about melting are well-founded. I was wrong.

See:

http://www.lamborghini-talk.com/vbfo...ps-pics-31649/

While it appears these particular tips were poorly designed and of questionable quality, and while I'm sure there are CF tips on the market that wouldn't pose this problem, you might want to play it safe by following Phil's sage advice.

Unlike the tips shown on the lambo, Fabspeed (see pictures on their website) tips have a stainless steel sleeve inserted inside the carbon fiber. So, the exhaust gasses don't pass directly against the cf.

Thanks Jockey.

@dbh, I think that is the main difference. The lamb tip did not have a steel sleeve. I think the steel sleeve will prevent melting but the heat can still be intense. Am wondering it's that will take the gloss away from the CF if there is a gloss finish. Maybe I should juts go with black painted tips.

Re: "Melting" CF exhaust tips.carbon fiber tips may

"melting" is caused by the use of inappropriate resin in the tubing from which the tips are cut. Non-structural parts like tips can (and often are) be made of cheap stuff like polyester resin, which lacks the ability to resist even the relatively low temps found at the end of an exhaust system. Worse still, the carbon fiber cloth may not be carbon fiber at all, but rather the 21st century version of contact paper....really just a picture of CF cloth on a plastic sticky-back matrix. Bad news here--all manufacturers---yes, even Porsche---use this cheap fakery all over their interiors. Seat backs, dash board trim, center consoles, etc.

Sadly, in this case, you may NOT get what you pay for. Ask if it's real. Is it wet lay-up or pre-preg.
DO NOT buy it on the interweb.

Merry Christmas Happy Hanukah

Hello all, wanted to chime in as I am personally running our Carbon Fiber tips on my Cayman R. Here is a picture of these tips we offer for your reference.

Since installation of those tips earlier this year I have put over 3000 miles on car, almost entirely to and from the racetrack. They have held up great as expected, and the reason being is the design. The main tip construction is stainless steel, and the high quality carbon fiber is mounted around this but does not touch. This creates an air buffer that prevents the carbon fiber from overheating, and while driving the faster you go the more air flows through this buffer zone to scrub away heat. The carbon fiber we use does not have a gloss overlay that is typically more sensitive to heat, it is a high quality matte finish that cleans up nicely. You'll enjoy just as much as I do

I have Kline CF tips on my 991. No problems so far and on a black car with CF interior I like the look.

Thanks for clearing that up, John. Damn, as much as I love my S/S tips, those CF tips do look nice!
