Default Opinion needed - Rear Bumper Modification

I am considering changing my rear bumper to an aftermarket.

Not sure about the construction or look. I do not like the bumper pads on stock 996.

Your thoughts?

This is current stock bumper:

Changing to this:

with excellent fit and finish, using a hand laid process with "Fiber Reinforced Plastic" and only the finest quality flex resin, that give our parts the look, feel and flexibility of factory poly parts.

Normally I would say no, since most aftermarket bumpers don't match the design of these cars well, IMO. But you already have aftermarket things going on for the wing and deck, so it might work. That said, I don't think it would be a huge improvement, the stock one looks good.

I agree with jleblanc, that normally aftermarket body panels are not very well designed, and don't really enhance the Porsche's lines. However, your car is clearly about being more personalized, and the shape of the particular rear bumper you suggest seems nicely thought out, and appears to be a nice subtle modification.

Why not go used OEM but source from the UK? No bumper pads, should fit fine, may even be cheaper.

The one that pretends to have a diffuser built into it? Maybe the OP should pretend his car is a Toyota while he's at it?

Get an early 996 rear bumpie, dump the pads, patch and paint.

That deck and wing are factory on window sticker as $3500 optional Carrera wing, also on porsche authenticity certificate.

In addition those are factory stainless steel quad tips $1100 on window sticker.

no aftermarket body parts, that is why I really don't want to pull the trigger on
aftermarket.

I did not realize that that was an OEM that would accommodate the left/right exhaust.

I would definitely prefer a factory if I could locate one.

thanks for imput.

The alternative you show in the picture is in my opinion junk. I tried one on my track car. They are floppy and have no structure. Came folded into thirds and stuffed in a box. Had to locate and drill all mounting holes and trim to fit.

cool, I didn't know a factory lid had the split-into-thirds look like that. All the more reason not to put an aftermarket bumper on it, if the rest is OEM, it looks great as-is
