Default shifter question?

Does anyone know if this shifter off a 2011 911 will fit a 1999 996 C2? Or would I be better off buying a short shifter kit?
This is what the ad says about it.

"Stock shifter from a 2011 Porsche 911. Fits other models. Standard throw, 15% shorter than stock 996 shifter with smoother action. Great condition with minimal wear or play."

http://www.kijiji.ca/v-transmission-...ter/1224166492

Thanks

Yes, 997 shifters will work on the 996. It's a nice upgrade.

+1, love my 997 shifter. Short throws and good feedback.

Just got my 997 shifter from Function First. I just assumed it would be American made but it's stamped "Made in Germany".

I did Ben's shifter also. I had another short shifter, but Ben's is much more crisp and direct. Absolutely no play.

Ben's shifter feels like a gated shifter, without any play. It has a direct connection feel that follows the shift pattern accurately. It is smooth and crisp, but not balky. Ben has described it as "rifle bolt action feel". As I mentioned, it was a dramatic improvement in the reduction of play, and direct feel over the other short shifter I had.

Cool, thanks for the breakdown. The 997 plastic bushings might just be the sweet spot for me.

For now....

Along with a Fister exhaust, this is the essential upgrade for this car.
