I have to find the article again, but I remember the Porsche engineer saying that the Plenum accounted for half of the horsepower gains in the X51.

Ok so i'm not mechanically inclined and just read up on this plenum thingy. Apparently it's an air intake distributor credited with adding 15HP at the wheels. I saw some prices around ~1K and some adds claim it was specifically designed for the 3.8L motor. Is this part included on my GTS or can i add it aftermarket for a little extra oomph?

The IPD is good for the S models. I'm happy with mine and BMC air filters. Better intake sound inside the car too. Who needs Bose or Burmester?

I have to admit, seeing the engine "guts" is exciting for me! LOL
How many miles did you have on your cab at the time of install? I've heard that there are some variances in install procedures / requirements based on engine mileage -- curious if this was spelled-out by the work order at the dealer?

Normally I would say you are sick But knowing you are a take it apart DIY guy I can see how you would react with excitement. For me, seeing raw pistons, timing chains, valve trains, etc. gives me pucker factor.

Hey Rob, this is very cool. Can't wait to hear your post operative impressions.
Do they want you to do any "break-in" after the surgery?
Maybe an early oil change after the open heart? Say, after 500-1,000 miles?
