From what I have gathered, the grade of oil you use depends on the body color and if the vehicle was equipped with the optional Jump Post Cover which adds 50hp.

There is nothing optional about the JPC. Without that, your 14-pin connector dies a horrible death.
I use Valvoline Synthetic 20W50 for my 944's. I had a 951 for 20+years and put 500K miles on it. I had the engine rebuilt once (at 185k), another set of con-rod bearings, and another top end rebuild. I used the same oil.
