I'm pretty sure the car Berno is referring to was his 991.1 GTS in Yellow so while I get is his point about profit margin I think the circumstances of his car were unique. Please correct me if I am wrong.

2015 GTS, warranty had been punched in 12/2015. We bought the car in April this year with 67 miles on the clock, new never registered

Started at MSRP and bargained long and hard. Obviously the dealer was motivated to move the car as it had been sitting for several months.
Stick to your guns and be prepared to walk away....always works...

I find these discussions interesting.

I am on the East coast . I contacted the dealer I bought my CPO car from about ordering a new car. Figured win win..he would give me somewhat less than I paid for my trade in that I have taken good care of and got from him then he could sell it again and sell me a new car...but nope.

Got the song and dance about no allocations and if they did it would be MSRP and no discount. I had hoped that dealing with Porsche dealers would be different than other car dealerships but alas not. Looks like if I want a car I am going to have to shop around for my discount.

Nothing unique...I've been researching STG's for sale thread and ~20% for a prior year model were not extremely rare. Best discount I came across was 22, so I went for 23%. Again, the dealer was motivated and accommodating, I cannot take all of the credit. The broader point is to be aggressive and push hard, worst you can get is a No at which point it's your choice to play or walk away. I believe that as buyers ultimately we have the upper hand as these cars are "wants" not "needs" and profit margins are insane. I read a recent article the Porsche sells 6 times less cars than Audi yet returns more profits than Audi, to the corporate coffers @ VAG.

At the time, I was also able to negotiate 11% discount on a 2016 Lava Orange base at Danbury, CT.

So again, if you push hard the deals are there.

I included the reference to my '16 offer back in April as it isn't irrelevant to '17 deal nowadays.

I'd aim for 10-11% on a '17. Or you can settle for 5-6 if not a good negotiator......

No offense, but your April deal on a leftover '15 with warranty punched has no relevance to a new '17. I got 21 percent off one of my cars purchased in a similar situation, but those are special circumstances, usually involving not only an older car but also a build that was not all that salable.

Nobody is getting 10-11% off on a '17 right now, and even 6% would be good. I'll bet most people who negotiate are getting an average of 4-5%, while those that simply settle are paying at or close to MSRP. Sports car allocations are down and Macan allocations are up, which isn't helping things.

Not exactly correct.
This ones been "sitting a while." Over a 120 days, I think, according to Car Gurus, anyway. And the price drop reflects it.

Its still new. It wont have been titled, but with the warranty punched it presents a great negotiating opportunity versus a car that hasn't been punched.
