After 6 years of 996 ownership, I have made the move to a 2010 Cayman.
When I bought my 6C2 in 2010 it had 17k miles on it, and I finally sold it with 71k. I replaced the IMS preemptively, added an X51 oil pan, and some fancy brakes. The car came with ROW M030 suspension. The car was able to fit two adults plus two kids (in the big child seats), was a fast and fun track car, and reliably drove to the train station every day. With a good set of winter tires on it, the car was even great in the snow. I drove my first kid home from the hospital in the car.
Along the way I have been the beneficiary of tons of great advice on this board, and have tried to contribute when possible. It looks like the Cayman board isn't nearly as active, and I will definitely miss the community I have enjoyed here.
So, thanks to all the 996 board members, and keep enjoying these special cars!
The only pic I currently have is from this past weekend at VIR. I picked up the car on Wednesday, headed down the DC on Thursday, then to Virginia on Friday. It got pretty rainy and a bit windy out there, but the little gator seemed to be at home. I had an instructor in the car for the second rain session to help find the quickest way around the track, and I'm pretty sure we found it! The next day, Sunday, was as perfect as I could ask for.
Clearly you are lying, since we all know that the 996:
* Cannot complete more than one lap without asploding;
* Run 71K miles without asploding;
* Be operated in the snow without asploding.
I don't know what your game is, mister, but we don't appreciate you spreading these lies about the 996.
(but seriously, enjoy the Cayman. My only regret when I purchased the 996 was selling my Boxster; I miss that car greatly.)
So for a few years I used a Cybex Aton in the back seat. This worked because my wife is only 5-3, and can deal with the seat all the way forward. After that I found the Maxi Cosi Rubi (had to import from Sweden or something) for when my boy grew up a bit. Then, of course, we had another baby, so we crammed both the Aton and the Rubi in the car. It was tight. But we made it work. Then we bought a Cayenne...
