I am starting the hunt for a 996 C4S or perhaps a Turbo and am confused by the two styles of exhaust tips commonly found on these cars - the dual "figure 8" tips (top photo) and the oblong sort of oval style. I thought perhaps one was the OEM sport exhaust but then I've seen many listings showing both style tips as being sport exhaust. Please help this confused 986 owner. Thank you!
My 2003 Turbo has the exhaust tips shown in the 2nd photo and AFAIK doesn't have any sport exhaust. Nothing like sport exhaust is listed on the options list.
on the S or 4s , the dual ovals or 8 tips are the optional, stainless steel exhaust. It is about 600$ I think. It is just the tips, not a full SS exhaust system
My 996TT with X50 has the dual figure 8 tips.
By the way, you can order just the tips off ebay for about $170, so I would not let lack of the cooler tips stop me from buying the car. If the car you want doesn't have them, it's a $170 and 20 minutes DIY mod. I buggered up one of mine and didn't want to pay $600 to replace them, so I thought I'd try the $170 ones. They were EXACTLY the same as the factory ones, minus one small manufacturer etching. All else was identical. Super easy to install and would be easy to swap them in for the oval ones. I've had them for about 6 months and they are holding up fine.
