Porsches "Full Leather Package" (code P55) doesn't really mean the 996 will be "full" of leather, but probably means more leather than the standard base model 996. In fact, Porsche has probably more than a 100 additional leather options above the so-called "Full Leather Package". Get this... you can get a "Key Pouch in colored leather" (CPU) or even the "Fuse box trimmed in leather" (CUJ). This one really gets me... "PCM packaged in leather" (CUR). How in hell do you leather Porsche's PCM??? Snake oil or what?!

Interestingly, a Snake Oil product was where Porsche originally obtained its "no substitute" slogan.
Also, many don't realize that Joe Gibbs was originally marketed as this, but sales were slow:
Now, for some real snake oil, try marketing this radiator treatment to the 356 crowd:

Then I finally sat in a 996 that didn't even have leather seat surfaces. Now I get it
So I'd say it's only possible to consider it Snake Oil if you haven't yet experienced both extremes.
15.5 years in and I'm glad we spent the equivalent of a new mid-range Golf on the leather options.

It was a not-very-nice post, and - though this sounds a little paranoid - "They're watching...they're watching everything we do."
It would be easier to hide indiscretions if delete was enabled here. I know of at least one Texan who would have found that useful.
Hi, Gretch. Nothing to see here. *whistles and walks away*

What I've learned so far?
1xxx0x75. After reading on these forums for months, I showed up to my mechanic at least 3 times with a 'sure failure any minute now!!!' just to be explained that all is still good.
I do swear though it still makes funky noises. Something is gonna break any second now.
1xxx0x76. Once you drive in LA, the ****ty road surfaces make any interior become a rattle park. Everything now rattles, and I've got tons to fix, though neither a garage nor the necessary knowledge yet.
1xxx0x77. Other P-car drivers in the city don't care about your car, neither do most others. Once you're out in the hills on the weekends, greetings galore, though. Nice.
Well, thanks for this forum. It's helped a lot, and given me a few nightmares.

I learned that BMW is working its way through oil companies like Kalashnikov through bunnies at the playboy mansion; it was strange to see a commercial for Pennzoil featuring BMW track cars. I didn't even know BMW dumped Mobil for Castrol before dumping Castrol for Pennzoil.
Kalash: Please do not gum up the grotto. Thx.

Even if you're cruising with a group of "normal cars" at only 14 mph over, the Cops will pick you out among the rest and make you an example of you. And let you sit on the side of the highway as a poster boy that says, "speeding is not a good thing boys and girls, look where it got this idiot!".

The "Porsche Tax" is NOT a figment of your imagination, but actually a real thing that you'll experience from all aspects of our society.
