The airbag fault should not disable the car - I can see no reason for that to happen, if the alarm seems to be disabling the car - that would be a separate issue.

Removing the airbag controller should make the car behave like a car without an airbag. I don't recommend doing that - but I see no other functional difference.

Airbag fault is not, repeat not disabling the car.

When I unplug the airbag controller it is disabling the car. When you follow the wiring diagram you can see where all the wires go and to the corresponding control units. Hence the question in the original post.

SeanR Did you read my reply to you on how to disable the airbag warning light?

In order to get Sean's attention you must first disagree with him.

We've been trading PMs, nothing to add to the thread. He was actually able to provide something of value.

OK so I looked at it - for LHD only what disables the car is the lack of a connection between the Airbag controller plug connections 3 & 4. I assume these are directly connected together inside the airbag controller. If there were a jumper between these everything else should work.

I don't recommend you do this - but there you go that's how this works.

I always got the best comeback, just sometimes a week or three late.

Sean, please contribute back to this thread with the solutions you pursued or found(or please pm me with the solutions?). For folks like me, its critical to be able to read from those of you who are 928 gurus to be able to figure out solutions to problems. And its greatly appreciated too!

I've been in this EXACT same situation with my '91, with my warning light being sporadic with coming on. Keep thinking its gone away or has been due to a battery drain discharging the system to cause the fault light(just replaced the battery), but I fear worse, as in a problem with the Airbag Controller. I was about to post a thread last month asking if anyone had the contact info for the shop in TX that checks & repairs the Airbag ECU. So Thanks John for providing that info on Air Bag Systems.

Hey Trey, can you tell me what it cost you for the earlier AB Controller with the sensors? And where you got it? If you end up disabling yours and not needing the controller you have, I may be interested. Since we both live here in Jax, maybe we should have an Airbag ECU/Sensor replacement party!

Hey Mel (MGW-Fla) --

The problem is the 1990 airbag controller is not the same as the 1991. 1991 is easier

In the 1990 (shown below) - they hard wired all of the connectors into the air bag controller meaning the entire dash needs to come out to remove the airbag controller.

versus the connections at the airbag controller on the 1991 and newer...

That's why I'm keen to find some jumper option on the main harness as a first option.

This looks like an interesting option for you...

Hi Trey, A while back I saw one like this on eBay with the sensors when I ran across it:

Thanks!

Hmm... Mel, it may require some investigation. I would think you could remove the passenger side panel and look back in there with a flashlight. If yours is hardwired, that would contradict what I've heard BUT these are 928s

Let us know if you find anything!
