Well, we made it home safely tonight. Thanks to everyone for the comments and tips. A special thanks to DTMiller for a great lunch yesterday. He is my new hero - living the dream.
Also I want to say a public thank you to the seller - Sid. He was great to work with and the car was better than he described. He also never wavered on the deal despite an avalanche of interest in the car that the Jalopnik article created.
We stopped for a late lunch with my son at Mizzou and the car was a hit at the Sigma Chi house.
Back home in Kansas City and tucked away for the night.

Thanks Doug. See you in the hood soon.
Well eye candy could keep me up all night..HA! I talked with Jeff and he will rolling into Indy fairly late. Really wish our timing was better but eh..sounds like a great car! We promised to contact each other for a meet up if he is back in this area or if I'm in the KC area. What do you guys think of a meet up in the Southern/West to Midwest area sometime. Could be fun! Theme could be barley pops and boobies!

Oh, so you didn't get arrested and bailed out for speeding.
Congrats on that beast. It's a beauty. Now, if someone offers you to sit in his 996, don't be all stuck up now that you have a turbo like this guy: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...how-local.html
So how stable was she on the road? (A tribute to 5CHN3LLy)

Thanks gnat.
BTW, the blue one I was trying to buy when the red one popped up is still on the market:
http://newyork.craigslist.org/wch/cto/5190649918.html
I realize that this car is a color change from silver to blue (after getting keyed). And that the color is a BMW color (Atlantis Blue 399). But it is gorgeous in the photos and is close to the unicorn color combo of Cobalt Blue over Black that I was looking for. It has a couple of mods that may turn people off but I think look great (997 lower half of front bumper, 997 sport seats). The paint and bumper and other mods were done at a reputable shop in New York.
I think the only reason the car is still available is that the seller is currently in Peru on business and is having his younger brother handle the calls off the ad. I finally got the brother to return my calls and texts and was able to trade emails with the owner. I did a lot of research though and the seller is legit. He is a frequent poster on 6speedonline. The car's build thread is on 6speedonline. He also owns a Panamera. If anyone is interested, please pm me and I will pass to you what I learned and the owner's email address. This car is also in New York. I am certain you can pick this one up for $31,000 and probably $30,000.

Must admit, it's kind of creepy to see a picture of any car in a non-original color with the cemetery as the backdrop. Some could say that she was brought back from the DEAD. Anyone want a zombie for their stable?

That is one beautiful TT. I love the red with the black wheels. I am excited and want one to. I want black wheels.I think it makes it so much more aggressive.Congrats

Move to KC and wait a year or two. He'll unload it locally for an insanely low price without any warning to his RL friends...
Told you I'm still bitter KC. You will never escape

Well, one year ago today, I picked up my car in New York and headed west back home. I got DTM to buy me lunch and blew off dinner with Pete. It's been a helluva year.
The car's been great - one small break (turbo wastegate actuator) in over 6,000 miles.
The camaraderie's been better. Looking forward to year 2.
Let's make that Vegas 996 Get Together happen.
