Default Advice please! Purchase 997 GT3, 997 GT3 RS or 991 GT3?

hello everyone, first post here on the forum. thank you for having me.

So im 26 years old and am going to purchase a GT3 soon.
Since I am relatively young I would like to purchase a car that will best hold its value or perhaps increase over time.

Before I get 20 replies saying a car is not an investment, I do realize that but the fact is some cars (a lot of limited 911s as most of you know) hold value while still providing you with an uber amount of fun during ownership.

My goal would be to lose less than $30k on the car for a worst case scenario and best case scenario basically not lose money during the ownership period (perhaps have it rise in value assuming I keep 3-5 years). I plan on driving the car as a "sunday" car or something I can get into a let off a little steam when i want to have fun (So not many miles and only in summer).

Could you guys provide me some feedback or advice which of the GT3s I should target with this desire in mind? I am basically only considering the 997.1 and .2 GT3 // 997.1 and .2 GT3 RS // 991 GT3? Perhaps something not listed here if you feel it would be more in line with what I am looking for.

I technically don't have a budget but would also like to spend closer to $110-130k rather the $200k+ of the RS. But if you guys think the RS would be no competition to the non-RS model considering future value I could swing that budget if it would be worth it longer term.

A porsche dealer owner recently said that he believes a clean 997 RS will be worth over $700k within the next 10 years and said he just wasn't sure where the regular 997 GT3's value would be in that time frame. He seemed very high on the RS's future value almost as a certainty.

He also said the 991 GT3 wouldn't compare in value anytime soon versus the 997 GT3s - mainly due to the PDK box and it has a less "raw" driving experience that Porsche may never offer in a future 911 again.

What would you recommend I target? Also, how many miles and color should I target? I know the louder colors command a premium, do you think it would be spending the extra money to obtain a louder color like blue or something?

Also for those of you say to get the 997...would you recommend the 997.1 or 997.2?

Thank you so much for reading my message and hope to hear some responses and great advice from you guys!

Thanks!
- Cam

yes RS will ALWAYS depreciate slower than non RS, all else being same: no surprise there.
the dealer owner who told you RS will be 700k in 10 year? what is his guesstimated rate of inflation? low mile RS3.8 are 200+ toay, so 700 in 10 years is not great.

if value is the concern and you must get a car. 997RS>991RS>997GT3

Not a horrible return. I think he's optimistic.

I think 991 RS is in 1-2 years way cheaper than now.

the way to go: 997RS>997.2GT3>997.1GT3>991RS>991GT3
regardless your buying price is a important factor too.

A lot less 997s built then 991s - about 1/3 less (so far). The engine issues that are being documented on the 991 page are troubling too.

"Clean RS" meaning what? Less than 10,000 garage queen?

Agree with 997RS>991RS>997GT3>991GT3. I would want unlimited engine replacements before I buy flappy paddle 991 non RS. I like to drive not just steer car

Cam,

Congratulations on choosing a GT3 / RS. They are great cars.

You are smart to consider resale value when buying a "toy". You are right, sometimes the more exclusive the property or item, the more valuable it may become in the future. If you can afford something so expensive at such a young age, more power to you.

My only warning would be that when you buy something you expect to become collectible or retain value, it may not be as "fun" as you would have anticipated. You may become concerned with putting too many miles on it, getting door dings, getting it wet or dirty. I own a early 930 - although I am happy with the run-up in values, it isn't as "fun" anymore as I worry about keeping it pristine and not "devaluing" it.

Good luck in your search. Best advice as always is - buy the seller and the best example you can find.

Cam, responded to your question in the air cooled forum.

I enjoy driving my 75 Carrera and although not as much "fun" as my RS I am OK going to Costco or Home depot with the 75. Still would get pissed if I got a door ding but agree with above statement. If you are looking at collectability or value in a vehicle - tough to have a pristine car and dealing the crazy's at Costco who let their shopping carts bang into the side of your car door.

Selling hard 700k in ten years; maybe 20-30. Maybe average condition 4.0 is 700k car by the. I wish otherwise; I own them. But doesn't seem realistic.

clean rs yes 10000-20000 miles. but those aren't garage queens. 500 miles are garage queens. we over use garage queen. not many out there. our group has three 4.0 unde 5000 miles and on,y one I feel is garage queen.

I agree with ur assessment on 991gt, thus I didn't list that in my sequence.

it will be way cheaper than now yes, but the order of my sequence won't change. if one wants modern vintage stick 36 or 38 rs then add pdks cars.

Just get a nice clean 997.2 GT3 for around $120k and drive it as much as you want and never see it depreciate in value. Enjoy and please drive it.

If you spend $170k plus for an RS it will not be as fun because it will stay in the garage.

All good points here.

For a daily driver and cost conscious. Any 997 or 997.2 gt3 will be great. Drive and enjoy.

For investment. - 997rs 997.2 RS. But kinda late to the party. Maybe wait for the next big stock market correction.

Not to forget potential cam bolts issues on the RS that will stay in the back of your head (at least it does to me) unless problem has already occurred /been taken care of.
